"I fucking knew it, K. I knew you should have left that trifling ass nigga alone. For all the shit he put you through. Twice? Man, naw."

Kaymari's bestfriend, Trenice, leaned back into her seat with a huff. After the first time hearing of Demarius's infidelities, she never saw him the same. She always felt like Kaymari could do so much better than him, but she refused to leave. She would always remind her friends how she stood beside him for years in both high school and college. How she saw the potential in him and she wanted to give their relationship a try. All for it to blow up in her face a second time. Well, a time that she knew about that equated to the second time.

"And for you to give that man a blessing like a child and have him shit on you like this? He's so fucking out of pocket Kaymari, I swear to God he better not show his face around me or I'm gonna call Jarod and Beanie so he can handle him. They don't give a fuck if he's a firefighter. Right is right and wrong is wrong.

Kaymari rolled herself in a fetal position and faced the hospital window. Her body was cold from the morphine and the waves of exhaustion continued to surge through her body little by little.

"He didn't know about the baby, T." Kaymari groaned, adjusting her arm so she wouldn't lay on her IV. She could hear the bustling of other nurses and techs back and forth from her Emergency Room door. The constant paging over the intercom, alarms going off, people yelling because they're a hard stick. The list goes on and on.

"What?"

"I said he didn't know about the baby... it was going to be a surprise?" T couldn't believe her ears.

"A surprise? You were better off just buying that fuck nigga a pair of boxer briefs. Not a whole fucking baby." If her words could sting any deeper, she'd be hallowed out by now.

"I know, T. Trust me, I know. I just... can we talk about something else, please?"

T's demeanor softened up. She reached out to Kaymari and rubbed her back slowly. Kaymari didn't want to show it but she felt like the whole world was collapsing on top of her. She lost her baby, her man, and she was close to losing her mind. She didn't want to terminate her lease, so she had to come up with a  plan.

"What're you going to do about the apartment?" She cringed at the thought all over again.

"I.. I don't know. I put all the money I saved into getting this apartment and now I don't even know how I'm going to pay for it.." T shook her head and sighed.

"Well," Tee sat up, dusted the imaginary dust off her lap and spoke up. "I think you shouldn't let this nigga control your life any longer. You're too cute, too smart, and too capable not to be able to do this life shit alone. You know we always talk about things happening for a reason, and this might just be your reason to pick yourself up." Kaymari didn't respond, instead she shifted around in the bed for a few moments until she was comfortably still again.

"Have you told your mom?"

Kaymari sucked her teeth. "Now you know me and her don't talk. And my daddy off with his wife doing who knows what. They don't have time for me."

"That's cool. You make time for you. You still going back to school, right?" Kaymari slowly nodded her head under the sheets.

"Okay, so in the meantime, we gotta get you a job. Why don't you come down to the club and try to get a job as a bargirl? Oh! What about a bottle girl? You know they pay good."

"T, now you know I don't think I have the body to be a-"

"What? Did you just say you don't have the body??" T slapped Kaymari on her round ass one good time and watched the sheets form a wave for a few seconds. "And didn't you say them thangs was real?" T reached over to playfully squeeze Kaymari's breasts. Kaymari tried her hardest to be sad but it was hard with her best friend around. She pushed her hand away with a  laugh.

"Cut it out, T!"

"See? You got face and body. Ain't no way you can't bring home money being a bottle girl. You're coming to the club with me tomorrow night— no exceptions."

"That's if they let me le-"

"Ms. Hunter? How are we feeling?" A tall, dark-skinned doctor beamed his pearly whites inside of her room, making T sit up straight and elbow Kaymari in her back.

"Huh?" Kaymari turned her head towards the doctor, slightly embarrassed that her eyes were so puffy from crying. "Yes, I'm doing better thank you."

"Good. We actually wanted to discuss your treatment options at home before we discharge you tonight. So tell me...."
