The happy couple?

Madison

I arrived early at work to get everything ready for my meeting with the happy couple, aka Issac and Lily. Gag.  I had to chant to myself that I could plan their wedding over and over. All I had to do was ask questions, take notes, and order everything. Easy peasy.

I had wedding books, a notebook, and a pen, along with refreshments and wedding samples for the happy couple. Again, gag. I had to steel my nerves and calm my breathing so I didn't lose my shit and quit. You can do this, Madison. Deep breaths. In and out.

Grandpa knocked on the door frame of the conference room. "Madison, your appointment is here."

I plastered a smile on my face when Issac entered the room alone. Wait. What? Grandpa left us alone so we could get down to business.

"Where is Lily?" I asked.

"Lily couldn't make it but said for us to get started."

"It's unusual for a bride not to be present for the wedding planning."

"Lily is low-key when it comes to planning events. In fact, she's fine with anything we decide."

"What?"

"Well, you're the wedding planner. You would know best." Issac shrugged.

I stared at Issac and blinked. I can't make decisions for the bride. Brides like to add their own personal touches to their weddings.

"Shall we get started?" Issac took a seat at the table before I could object.

Deep breaths, Madison. I sat down in a chair beside him but put space between us. I didn't need anyone getting the wrong idea.

I flipped open my notebook to get started. "So, I have books you can look through and samples to give you an idea about the wedding."

"Actually, I prefer a more hands-on approach, if you don't mind?"

I forced a smile and gritted my teeth. "Um, sure. What did you have in mind?"

"I was thinking we could visit places. You could help me pick out things like flowers, food, and all that jazz."

"That's an option, but I still need an idea of what you and the bride want."

"We want something small and intimate."

"Okay. What else?"

"We were thinking off-white for the theme."

"In which aspect?"

"For the colors. The guys would wear black suits while the women wear off-white, including you."

"Why me?"

"You're our wedding planner."

"Oh, right." I nodded and jotted notes into the notebook. "Did you have a date for your wedding?"

"October 15. That way, the weather won't be terrible."

"Wait. You want me to plan a wedding in six months?"

"Is that a problem?"

I thought about October 15 and realized it was the day of Issac and my first date. I gritted my teeth to control my anger. "Not at all."

Issac leaned into me, letting his cologne waft into my nose. It was my favorite cologne that he always wore. "Is something wrong?"

"Ah, nope. Nothing is wrong." I scooted a way to put distance between us. "I'll call venues for us to visit to lock in your date. Usually, venues are two years out. But I'll see what I can do."
