Hello there dear audience. I'm an archaeologist by profession and I am officially called by the name Benedict Brent but closed ones affectionately refer to me as Ben. I am three decades old . Hah , that way of telling my age makes me feel better.
I am also known by the name Captain B. Since the fearless captain I am , taking my team on this historical voyage to find out if the relics we find are priceless sights to the naked eye or just some leftovers by scavengers . So tighten your seatbelts !!
Chapter 1
As the sun dip below the horizon , it casted long shadows on the land which , as predicted was once a home for the now extinct civilization and not as barren as it looks today. It had been three weeks since Ben , escorted by his teammates , started to dig up this land of ancient ruins . Not much has been found . Yet. The rocks which are now reflecting the golden hue of the sun that's hung so low in the sky , are a result of weathering by wind and rain . The rocks that have been a result of weathering , didn't just weathered over the centuries but witnessed the hidden secrets of so many undiscovered civilizations which captain B is determined to unfold.
Ben has always been fascinated by the books that store the records of past . As a toddler , he used to specially hover over the history section of the library down the street . And with age , his interest towards history only intensified . Being inclined towards history since the early years of his life and deeply driven by the desire to unlock the secrets hidden beneath the dust underneath , he majored in anthropology. Benedict is now a certified archaeologist with the degree stacked up on the walls of his office , besides the many other certificates and awards he has earned so far.
Cut to present , Ben is currently slouching on the one of the big chunk of the rock , gulping water down the throat in one go.
" Cap , do you really think it's worth trying here ? We've been looking for one clue for the past three weeks but all we got is dirty rugs , broken pottery , decomposed leaves and animals that date back to nothing more than half a century. "
Ben didn't waver a bit . As if he expected his colleague to bring this up. He chuckled, " the decomposed remains you found might not lead us to what we're looking for but will be a good compost for your future garden, Henry"
Henry tsked. " we've been toiling tirelessly here for what seems like ages Ben. For what ? To find the remains of a 'rumoured civilization' that once existed in this expanse of infertile land?" .
If Henry's audacity to talk to his leader in that tone surprises you , Henry and Ben have been best friends since their college days . They're apparently each others' half . Better half.
Ben closed the cap of the bottle , straighten up and handed the bottle to Henry. " dust-off that look from your face . Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was this site you're standing on." And he walked back to the rest of his mates.
"Any updates , fellas ?" he expected them to nod their heads in denial as they've been doing for the past 3 weeks .
To his surprise , " Yes , captain " , chipped Joe , the youngest amongst them , motioning towards the map like structure on displayed on his digital screen .
Ben moved closer to him to inspect it more intently.
" This is the layout of this sight we found in the book that talks about the political geography of this land . This has been a remote area so not much finely detailed map of it exists. " he sighed before continuing, " since the area is surrounded by a water body on one side , mountains erected on another and forest on the rest of the sides , it is believed that it was a tribal region but the entire tribe practically drowned in a river inundation or what we say "flooding" in lay man language. "
