taking a deep breath in, she dropped him a text. she'd had to rephrase it quite a few times despite it being short but to her surprise, he responded fairly quickly, letting her know that he was in the area. she pulled a cigarette out of her pocket, lighting it and placing it between her pink lips as she walked towards the nearby diner where her old friend had asked to meet her. as she neared the entrance, she'd stepped on her cigarette, ridding it of its light as a pungent smoke was emitted from it. immediately walking into the diner she was engulfed by the warm scents of sugars wafting up her nostrils as well as the vivid colours on the walls surrounding her. these bright tones in juxtaposition with the year of 99- the dull shades of grey. walking further in, she noticed the varieties of different people within the diner despite it being fairly empty. she glanced up towards the till which is where she was met with a familiar face. "jene?" asked soobin as his lips curled up into a small smile.
"it's been a while..." jene nodded at this as she held her hands behind her back anxiously. noticing her apprehension, soobin's smile wavered ever so slightly before he plodded over to her.
he took in her features- she hadn't changed much but he could see how tired she was from the darkness underneath her eyes as well as the ruggedness of her overall look. despite his curiosity, he didn't ask her any questions but instead lead her to a table where they both sat down. "is this okay- aren't you working?" jene asked with a small voice as she looked around at the diner slightly. soobin shrugged as he looked at her blankly "hardly anyone comes here particularly at this time anyway"- jene just nodded. 7 to 6 it said on the clock on the wall, jene stared as the hand ticked as every second passed, her nimble fingers tapping on the table littered with crumbs in front of her. "-then how've you been?" asked soobin as he attempted to break the thick silence which they'd been sitting in.
"yeah i mean... i guess things have been hectic? quite crazy i don't know..." the girl replied furrowing her eyebrows. "what about you?"
"i've been fine... sorry we haven't been in touch much since- you know. it's like everything's gone wrong since we graduated" jene nodded in understanding "tell me about it..."
soobin watched jene for a moment before starting again "like i said before, we haven't been able to talk much. but i trust you: we grew up together. i think... we can trust each other and..."
"you do realise that i messaged you first?" laughed jene as she interrupted soobin. he laughed a little too "what i mean is that we both need the company i guess. thanks for reaching out." soobin then smiled offering jene a little bit of sunshine on an otherwise cloudy day.
