TW: this chapter contains a graphic description of violence, gore, and murder.

Suddenly it became harder to breathe. Everything was in slow motion as she was embraced by what she once thought was her enemy. They both wept looking at the TV screen with shock. As Kai walked down the stairs, all Madelene wanted to do was be in his arms. Drown in his chest, let his palm pet her hair softly, fingers run down her neck to calm her. But she couldn't. She could only look into his eyes with hers in the ocean of tears as Charlotte held onto her.

It all went blurry when the rest of the Parkers arrived home. Kai disappeared the moment it happened, that was the only thing she took notice of.

Mrs Parker put an itchy woolen blanket around her shoulders and comforted the girl before Vivienne arrived in all glory. She was dressed in a suit and her face was emotionless. She instantly asked the coven leader and his wife to step aside. The adults were discussing in a serious tone in the kitchen while Madelene stared into the distance, unable to cry anymore, their voices were like static, and she had no interest in knowing what they were saying.

Then her mother grabbed her by the shoulders and led her out of the Parker residency. Her touch felt cold and distant, lacking the warmth and comfort a mother's embrace should provide. Madelene couldn't help but flinch away slightly, the physical barrier between them serving as a stark reminder of the emotional distance that had grown between them over the years.

Moments later they were in a silent car. Throughout the journey, Madelene couldn't shake the feeling of isolation that seemed to cling to her like a suffocating shroud. Her mother's presence felt more like a burden than a source of comfort, the strained atmosphere between them only adding to her sense of unease.

As they arrived home and Madelene stepped out of the car, she couldn't help but feel a pang of bitterness at the realization that even in her moment of need, her mother remained distant and cold. But she pushed aside her disappointment, burying it deep within her as she resigned herself to face the darkness that awaited her within the confines of her own home.

Without a word, the girl kicked off her shoes and slowly walked into her bedroom. The moment the door closed behind her, she collapsed on the ground howling. All she wanted to do was call Carly's mom and make sure she was ok, but they didn't even know each other in that way and it would be weird. She probably couldn't even speak now either way, Maddie knew she wouldn't be able to if her only daughter died.

She had a great pain in her chest, weighing her down, unable to get up.

Everything seemed to be so silent, she could hear the statics of air as she dropped her clothes on the ground and walked into the shower.

The heartache was unbearable. The thought of never seeing her only friend. The terrible thoughts of what had happened. The theories already started to spread, the news said that Carly Grimes slipped on moss and fell into the creek, hitting her head on the rocks.

It didn't take long for them to find her body, cold and wet. They said she couldn't have been dead for more than six hours.

There were already suspicions of suicide which was typical when a teenage girl dies in a small town, and of course, homocide.

Madelene was sick thinking about it all.

As she stood under a burning hot water,  steam blurring her vision, the constant crying gave her a terrible migraine. She wished to melt away into the drain with the water, to make the pain disappear. She stepped out of the shower and immediately ran to the toilet to throw up her last meal. She weakly stood up, supported herself on the toilet seat, and looked into the mirror. She looked terrifying, not better than a corpse.
