Chapter 3 - Observation

Connor opened his eyes. He was in Amanda's gardens.

His goal, find Amanda.

He quietly began to walk around, as if he was rediscovering this special place for the very first time. The ground was lined with ponds overhung by huge cherry blossom trees, stones carved with symbols, a variety of plants and immaculate white doves. It was a restful calm... Far away from the noise of human civilization. Here, there was no traffic at all hours, no nauseating smells or the heavy atmosphere of Detroit. No, nothing negative. This tranquility gave a feeling of unequalled serenity as the Android RK800 made its way through the flower gardens.

He took a small white bridge leading to the center of this Eden towards the rose garden impeccably tended by a woman of color. The person he'd been looking for since his activation. Sheltered under a photovoltaic palm tree, she was using a mister to tend her beautiful, delicate red roses, bending down from time to time to smell their unique, intoxicating fragrance. Nature was at one with CyberLife's modern architecture, a captivating harmony between life and the inert. An ideal balance ... Making this truly soothing place perfect for meditation, which was why Connor enjoyed coming here to meet Amanda.

"Hello, Amanda."

Once on the central platform, he stopped behind the woman who had not yet shown any sign that she had heard him approach. No wonder, after all, he knew how to keep a low profile. Was she perhaps too absorbed with her gardening work? However, he didn't have time to explore all the possibilities because she ended up turning around after plucking one of her precious roses. Holding the stem between two fingers, she twirled the flawless rose close to her face, sketching a small smile when she met Connor's intrigued gaze.

She seemed happy to see the Android RK800 in her gardens.

"Connor ... It's good to see you." She expressed as her artificial smile grew slightly larger. Connor imitated her immediately, quickly noticing that their relationship of trust had remained intact since his posting.

"Congratulations, Connor. Finding that deviant was far from easy..." Amanda left her sentence hanging to smell the unique scent of roses once again behind her.

"And the way you interrogated it was very clever." She praised softly, her eyes closed. Then she spoke again after turning back to the Android listening attentively; "you've been remarkably efficient, Connor."

"Thank you, Amanda." Gratefully, the RK800 puffed out his chest a little at Amanda's many words of praise and was delighted to observe that relational levels with the woman were increasing considerably. As her intermediary reviewing his progress, his confidence was therefore paramount to his success. For if the results satisfied his consultant, then by extension they satisfied CyberLife.

Living up to their expectations was all that mattered to him.

"We've asked the DPD to transfer it to us for further study. It may teach us something about what happened. The interrogation seemed... Challenging... What did you think of the Deviant?" The woman then asked, voluntarily turning her back to him. The intonation of her voice less warm than before, given the topic of conversation.
