"Doctor Grey, can I close?" An intern asked her

"Yeah, go ahead." Meredith nodded and watched her student stitch up the patient that was laying on the operating table

"Finish up, we'll inform the family. Good job everyone." Alex spoke up

Him and Meredith left the OR and started scrubbing out together

"How's Charlie?" He carefully asked, knowing Meredith and Derek's 13 year old daughter had reached a hard phase in her life

"It's been rough. Last night she was so angry again because Derek was pulled into surgery and our plans got canceled." Meredith sighed as she explained, remembering the loud noise of Charlotte throwing the doors shut

"I'm sorry to hear." Alex placed his clean hand on her shoulder

"It's fine.." Meredith muttered. "How has Luna been?"

"Jo and I have become fluent at signing, she's been doing amazing ever since we knew how to help her."

"The three of you should come over this weekend." Meredith said but not going into details yet, rubbing her stomach a bit

"You don't feel that well?" Alex frowned

"My stomach, I haven't exactly been eating that well lately." She sighed

"Is your shift finished?" Alex asked her as they start taking off their scrub caps

"Yeah, but I'm thinking of taking a nap here instead of at home, I need some silence."

"You're saying the hospital is more quiet then your house?" Alex chuckled

"Ever seen a frustrated 13 year old with Derek and my genes?" Meredith laughed but she finally felt the exhaustion taking over

"Go to your office and take a nap, I'll bring you a cup of tea." Alex promised

"You're the best." Meredith smiled softly and started to walk down towards her office while Alex went to inform the family and then got a cup of tea for his friend

When he arrived he knocked on the door of her office but he heard grunting or wincing and quickly opened the door, only to find Meredith doubled over and pretty pale

He hurried towards her and rubbed her back while asking what was up

"Just my stomach-" She whimpered

"Meredith, you've been stressing yourself out way too much!" He frowned

"Fine.." She groaned

"Sure you're fine." Alex rolled his eyes and helped her to lay down on her side, covering her with a blanket. "When was the last time you ate something?"

"Dunno.." Meredith shrugged

"Did you eat today?" He asked but she shook her head, a single tear streaming down her cheek which he quickly wiped away

"Tired.." Meredith sighed sadly

"Take a nap, I'll rub your back." Alex said and she went to lay down, her head was hurting as well as she was just so tired

"Mer, did you lose weight?" Alex asked as he rubbed her back

"Dunno." She muttered

...

"Go home, you got nothing to prove here. You're not feeling well, just go sleep in your own bed." Alex sighed as Meredith was being stubborn

"Fine!" Meredith groaned and grabbed her bag, not even bothering getting changed into her street clothes

"Text me once you've slept and let me know how you're feeling. And eat something!" Alex tried

"I'll be fine, Alex." She groaned and went to her car where she sat down as she felt her stomach acting up again. But she quickly hurried and started the drive to their land

She checked the time and Charlotte should be home soon so she hoped she could still catch a small nap

The drive went slow and the pain in her stomach was distracting her. Once she arrived she quickly hurried to the bathroom as she was scared she'd have to throw up

"Mom?!" She heard her daughter's voice a while later

"Coming!" Meredith replied and pushed herself up. She quickly splashed some water on her face before forcing a smile and walking towards Charlotte

She saw how her daughter has jumped on the couch and was checking her phone

"Hey, how are you? How was school?" Meredith asked, taking a seat next to her teenage daughter

"Fine but boring." Charlotte shrugged.

"It's almost the weekend, what would you like to do?" Meredith asked, trying to shake off her nauseous feeling

"I might go see some friends." She shrugged

"What about you and I go shopping?" Meredith suggested

"For new clothes to wear in DC? No then I for sure prefer to see my friends, which you and dad will rip away from me soon." She stomped off

"Charlie-" Meredith wanted to get up but suddenly felt her stomach acting up again and rushed to the bathroom where she started to throw up

Afterwards she had brushed her teeth two times to get the nasty taste away and made another attempt to try to talk to her daughter

"Charlie? You know daddy really wants that job.." Meredith muttered, she wasn't very convinced either about moving away from Seattle

"Dad is selfish! Don't you think I've heard you two fighting over it?!"

"Monkey.." Meredith sighed

"No mom! Why do we have to move? We're happy here!" Charlotte opened the door, a few tears streaming down her cheeks

"Oh sweetie-" Meredith hugged her daughter tight. "Maybe it will be a lot of fun."

"You're not even convinced either." Charlotte sobbed

"I want dad to be able to take this amazing chance." Meredith muttered, her heart breaking from seeing her daughter like this
