tori thought their town was weird

tori thought their town was weird. actually, she knew they were weird. they had way too many annual events for it to be normal. annual events that were basically pointless. like, why did they have a snowman-building contest that let an adult and her two teenage children win?

that being said, she didn't completely hate it. she actually enjoyed how involved you could be in the town.

she did, however, hate the basket auction. she had no one to bid on her but thanks to sadie, she actually had someone to pay five dollars on her shitty basket.

and because she did, she was actually going to try.

she was with her mom and sister, moving to the back to find a smaller basket. she loved sadie but she was not going to put more than some store-bought snacks. they were just going to order a pizza.

"jesus," she exclaimed as jess appeared beside her. "what-"

"super glue," he said, pointing to the glue beside her.

she grabbed the glue passing it to him, "there you go." she glanced back at the soda. "strawberry or raspberry?"

"strawberry."

she nodded, "cool, thanks."

he looked down at the basket in her hands, "so, whose bidding on yours?"

"sadie. obviously," she told. "the whole thing is stupid but i'm being forced against my will and held at gunpoint."

"huh."

she glanced back at the super glue, "it's two for one by the way."

"thanks."

she sent him once last smile before going to pay.

the auction was going well. then it was tori's basket.

"that's mine," she muttered to sadie next to her.

"how about we start this bid at three dollars as well," taylor announced.

tori scoffed, "hey!"

sadie giggled, "ten dollars!"

and then chaos ensued. jess bid fifteen dollars and in some weird dick-swinging contest dean began to bid on her basket too.

he hated jess. and for some reason that translated to his friendship (which was a very strong word for what they had) with tori. he hated jess so she had to stay away from him.

"what the fuck is happening?" she asked as her basket bid went up to fifty dollars.

sadie didn't reply, just watching the pair bid until it reached ninety dollars and jess won the basket.

"what the fuck was that?" vee hissed to sadie beside her.

sadie turned to her, "jess just spent ninety dollars on your shitty baked goods."
