Lucas' POV

I was peacefully doing paperwork (by peacefully I meant that I was bored out of my mind), until I received a mind-linked message that a Rogue was spotted on our territory.

'This is the perfect distraction,' I thought.

I stood up and stretched, my bones cracking in the process. I sighed in relief and proceeded to talk to my Beta, Derek.

<A/N: Everything written in bold is mind-linked>

"Tell them to leave it alone."

"But Alpha, I-"

"I want to take care of it myself."

"Roger that, Captain." He said mockingly.

I changed out of my pajamas and into a pair of jeans and a white shirt. I ran a hand through my tousled hair to fix it a bit, and once I deemed myself good enough to be shown, I left my house. I walked across our territory, earning respectful nods from people who crossed my path. I entered the woods, not bothering to shift. I was taking big steps, enjoying the peace of the forest and at the same time not forgetting that I had a loose wolf to deal with.

After a while, a smell caught my attention. A smell of strawberries and dirt. As disgusting as that sounds, it actually smelled divine. I followed the scent and it led me to a clearing, and I saw a small figure crouched on the edge of the lake, crying. My wolf, Evan, immediately reacted to the girl in front of me. Although I wanted to pounce on her as much as he did, I kept him under control. She was still a rogue after all. She was shaking violently as she sobbed, and I could feel her fear and sadness.

What happened that affected her so much?

I slowly approached her, making sure that I don't scare her away. Unlike what most wolves would have done if they were in my situation, I actually waited for my mate, even if she didn't show up at the age of seventeen like she was supposed to. I'm currently twenty-one years old. She was four years late. I shook my head, and concentrated again.

The doubts about her being my mate all vanished when I touched her shoulder. My fingers felt like it was on fire. Evan was begging me to let him out, but I couldn't do that just yet. She was obviously frightened, and there was no need to make matters worse for her. She was so fragile and innocent. I was afraid that if I exercised one ounce of force too much in my touch, she would crumble into a thousand pieces. I turned her around ever so slowly, and she covered her face with her hands. At first, I thought that she was afraid that I would hit her, but then I understood that she didn't want me to see her. I tried sparking a conversation, but it was leading to nowhere. She was silent and only dismissed my questions. I have to admit; it did hurt a bit. It was as if she was rejecting me.

"What's your name?" I gave it one last shot. We stood in silence.

"Radiance Jade." She whispered, and I mentally high-fived myself. "You?"

"Lucas Caine." I introduced myself. "I like your name, Radiance." I tested it out, and loved how it rolled off my tongue so naturally.

"I like your name too, Lucas."

I wanted to answer, but someone spoke before me.

"Radiance, Radiance, Radiance... What am I going to do with you?"

She whimpered, and I immediately stepped in front of her in a protective stance. I felt a something light tug at my right arm, followed by tingles, and I couldn't help but smile when I knew what it was.

Radiance was holding my hand.

Alright I edited it.

I hope it's better than before.
