AEMOND, 134 AC

The way Alayne stared at him made Aemond feel as if he'd told her every one of his secrets. And by the gods, some of those secrets he would take with him to the grave. Alayne's eyes were wide, and she pressed her lips together and asked quietly, "How long have you been coming?"

A knot twisted in his stomach, and Aemond swallowed any protest he might have against telling her the truth. "I think you know how long."

It was a coward's answer, but it was still truthful.

Alayne held the book against her chest even tighter. "I see."

Aemond had kept every letter she'd ever written him, had displayed the books she'd given him, and had held on to her dragon egg for seven years. And for seven years, he'd return to this secluded spot in the library, refusing to remove any sign of her.
