finish him off. an order.

a shadow was cast over you as your eyes darkened. you stood up, pushing yourself off the ground as you reached into your uniform for your wand.

"sealium secondth, hundredths signationem."

hoooooonkkk~

"brad. it didn't work." you turned your head, only to be met with an enraged look on your superior's face.

"you deaf moron! seal him, not his non-existent magic! didn't you hear me say he's unmarked?!" he exploded on you. you deflated, nodding your head.

the mushroom-headed boy approached you, placing a hand on your shoulder.

"hey. it's okay, you didn't know." he consoled you.

'but I should've...' you were urged to say, but kept silent. you didn't want another scolding from brad, so you only nodded your head as thanks.

"and why're you consoling your enemy?! you two seriously share the same braincell!" his eyes followed the mushroom boy, watching as the teenager picked up a wand laying around in the room.

"pops. i'm gonna borrow your wand." the boy announced, holding up the wooden stick. brad got on the defensive, casting a shielding spell.

however, much to your amusement, the boy took a stance, chucking the wand at insane speed right after. power, speed, and strength combined, the wand broke through brad's barrier spell with ease, even leaving a small cut on the man's cheek.

brad, dumbfounded once more, slumped and fell to his knees on the ground.

"threaten my family again... and i'll kill you." mushroom-head warned. hell, even his own pops was trembling at the display of immeasurable strength.

"heh heh heh..." brad started chuckling before bursting into a fit of laughter.

"brad. i think it's time you check into a nursing home. you're old and loosing it." you commented, staring as he laughed.

"i'm fine, you sick moron. that was good." he complimented mushroom-head.

"let's make a deal, mushroom-head." he proposed, catching the boy's interest at the sudden change of attitude.

"do what i ask, and i'll let you and the old man slide."

"brad. you sound like a pedophile."

"shut up! that's an order!" he threw a wand at you. you muttered a small 'ow', though it didn't really hurt.

"what's the deal?" the boy asked, interest piqued. he would do anything to be able to live in peace with his pops, it seemed.

"all you'll need to do is enroll in magic school." brad dropped the bombshell after some blubbering about the country and religions.

"think about it. if you're selected, that'll make you one of the gods' chosen. in other words... society will have no choice but to accept you. i just want the prestige that come with the title. which is why i'll back you up."

truth be told, you weren't really listening after the acceptance part. and you weren't listening throughout the entire conversation between brad, mushroom-head, and his pops. that is, until you heard your name being mentioned

"don't worry, old man. it may be a magic school, but he won't be alone. right, (y/n)?" brad glanced at you, only to find you zoned out once more.

"huh? school?" you repeated, mind blurry. brad only sighed.

"this is an order. you will be transferred to the same school as that kid, if he's accepted, and you'll make sure his cover isn't blown." the man commanded, gesturing towards mushroom-head with his thumb. you nodded your head without question.

"i'll be alright, pops. im chock-full of motivation. besides... i want us to be able to live in peace." the boy reassured. his father sobbed, praising his son for being so good.

"if this world won't allow that... then i've got no choice but to crush it with my fist." he declared. for someone his age, he was much more well-behaved than you or any other teenager you've seen.

and to think that he was able to get to this point without magic, without anyone but his pops... you couldn't help but commend him. and honestly? you were more or less swelling with hope. he gave you hope that with or without magic, anyone could work themselves out of an unfavourable situation. just like he did, with muscles for magic.

and suddenly, the weight you felt whenever you recalled sealing away the magic of offenders of the law didn't feel as heavy; as if he had lifted away some of the weight without even knowing.

glancing up at the sky, through a busted hole in the roof, a feeling had washed over you. a whole new adventure was up ahead, and you were sure this mushroom-headed boy would make it into a magic academy.

perhaps, you could finally live a normal teenage life. and perhaps, it might just all be possible because of this sole unmarked kid who happened to be too dedicated to cream puffs.

you couldn't help but smile. and hell, you didn't even know his name.
