Chapter 3: Murphy's Law

I was correct with thinking that Atoms death wouldn't be the last.

This morning Clarke found Wells dead just outside the walls of our camp.

He was murdered by one of the grounders.

I never really got to know him but he seemed nice.

The whole camp was working on putting the finishing touches on the wall and Murphy was being a real jack ass ever since Bellamy told him to supervise us.

Connor collapses to his knees in exhaustion, dropping the log he was carrying.

"Should I get the little girl to do the work for you?" Murphy asks sarcastically pointing to charlotte

"I just need water" Connor croaks out

"Get him some water" Bellamy tells Murphy

Murphy unzips his pants and starts to relieve himself on Connors back.

"What the hell" Connor screams scrambling to his feet

"You wanted a water break" Murphy says sarcastically "Everyone back to work" He yells at the people who have stopped working to watch what was happening.

I see Octavia and Jasper walking towards the edge of camp. She smiles at me before disappearing with him behind the wall.

After a tiring day of doing absolutely nothing but sitting with Monty while he works on trying to communicate with the ark through the bracelets. I soon hear yelling and see a crowd forming around Murphy.

Monty and I both run down the ladder to see what's going on.

"You killed Wells" Clarke screams at Murphy

"What are you talking about?" He asks confused

"Your knife was found with his fingers" Clarke says holding up the knife

"I don't have to answer to you, I don't have to answer to anyone" Murphy yells at her

"Come again?" Bellamy asks stepping forward

"Come on man, you have to believe me" Murphy pleads

Bellamy just shrugs

"Do you guys really want a society with no rules?" Clarke shouts egging on the crowd

"I say we float him" Connor yells causing the crowd to cheer

"No that's not what I meant" Clarke yells panicked as the crowd starts to close in on Murphy

But she is ignored and Murphy is soon pushed to the ground. The crowd kicks him and rolls him down a small hill.

I take off towards the crowd and when I push my way to the front a rope had been tied around Murphy's neck, his hands had been bound, he was gagged and the rope was thrown over a branch hanging from a tree. He was standing on a small crate; it was the only thing keeping him from plummeting to his death.

I lunge forward to try and get him down but I am held back by two guys.

"Bellamy do something" I scream at him

"Bellamy you should do it" Connor yells getting everyone to encourage Bellamy to kick the crate from underneath Murphy.

"Please don't, you're not a killer" I beg Bellamy

He gives me an apologetic look before knocking the crate out from underneath Murphy.

As Murphy drops and starts to wriggle around doing anything he can to try and save himself Charlotte pushes her way to the front of the crowd.

"Stop, Murphy didn't kill wells, I did" She screams causing mass confusion, distracting people enough for me to grab an axe from Bellamys belt and cut murphy down.

Finn takes the rope from around Murphy's neck and Clarke unties Murphy's hands.

Murphy inhales a deep breath and I breathe a sigh of relief that he's still alive.

Bellamy quickly whisks Charlotte into a tent, Finn and Clarke follow them.

Murphy gets up and starts to rally the crowd.

"Bring the girl out Bellamy" He yells

"Murphy calm down" I say trying to stop him from doing anything crazy

"I want her to feel what I felt" Murphy screams

Bellamy comes out of the tent alone.

"Murphy that's enough" Bellamy says to him

"Who here wants to see her get what she deserves" Murphy screams at the crowd

Only a few raise their hand.

"So you guys string me up for nothing but when that little bitch confesses you want to let her walk" Murphy yells

"Murphy it's over, give it up" Bellamy tells him

"Fine" Murphy sighs in defeat

But the second Bellamy turns around Murphy picked up a small log from the ground and hit Bellamy in the head causing him to fall to the ground.

Murphy ripped open the flap of the tent only to see that Clarke and Finn had taken charlotte out the back.

Murphy rallies a few guys and they go after them.

I sit with Octavia as we wait for Bellamy to regain consciousness.

As soon as he does he takes off into the forest to look for Charlotte.

"I hope no one gets hurt" I sigh leaning my head on Octavia's shoulder

"They'll be fine" She assures me wrapping her arm around me

"That's what Bellamy said about Atom" I mutter

The sun has set and then risen again before the group finally returns minus two people: Murphy and Charlotte.

"What Happened, Where's Murphy?" I ask Bellamy

"We banished him" Bellamy says coldly

"What? Why?" I scream at him

"Charlottes dead and it's his fault" Bellamy spits before walking away from him

I angrily walk up to Clarke

"This is all your fault, you should have just kept your mouth shut" I scream lunging at her, punching her in the jaw

Finn and Miller drag me away from her and try to calm me down.

"Relax Kat" Miller coos

"Relax? It's her fault he's gone. Maybe we should just banish her instead." I spit

"As much as I'd love to banish her I don't think lover boy over here would allow it" Miller chuckles gesturing to Finn.

Finn just glares at us and walks away.

After the event with Clarke I go and lie down in my tent.

"Knock knock" Octavia says as she opens the tent flap "can I come in?" She asks

I nod and she comes and lies next to me.

"Are you alright?" she asks

"Yea I guess" I tell her

"It was pretty hot seeing you punch Clarke" She says chuckling

"Oh really" I say laughing as well

I roll over on my side so I'm facing her and I start to kiss her neck.

She gets on top of me and straddles my waist.

I slide her shirt up and pull it over her head, throwing it across the tent.

"That was...fun" She says smirking while throwing a blanket over our naked bodies.

I nod, out of breath and peck her lips.

I wrap my arm around her and she places her head on my chest as we drift off to sleep.
