I took a deep breath and raised my hand, bumping my knuckles against the wood of the apartment door. There was the faint sound of Christmas music from inside and when the door opened I was hit with a wave of delicious scents. Sugar cookies, fresh roasted ham, and baked bread made my mouth instantly water.

"You're here!"

Micheal was bathed in the warm glow from inside the living room, his smile as bright as the room itself. He pulled me into a tight hug.

When he pulled away I was finally able to survey the whole room, it was a modern apartment with an open-concept living room into the kitchen with a small table separating the two rooms. The table was set with holly and candles littered about, and a large sparkling Christmas tree sat in the corner of the living room. I could barely see Louis hustling about the kitchen from my spot in the entryway.

"Thank you for having me, your apartment is so pretty."

"Don't say that it'll grow his ego."

I laughed at the insulted look the blonde shot at his significant other.

"Come in, come in! You're freezing."

I shot him a grateful smile and set down the two gift bags that I was holding, beginning the process of taking off my coat. The older man took it from me, hanging it up on one of the hooks on the wall.

"I need a taste tester, and Micheal can you turn down the volume to the radio."

"Duty calls. Make yourself at home."

Micheal snickered and patted my head as he walked towards the living room. I went the opposite way sheepishly entering the kitchen. Louis turned to me once I breached his line of sight.

"Merry Christmas kid, try these mashed potatoes."

"Blunt as ever."

Nevertheless, I took the offered spoon to my lips and tasted them. He must have caught my eyes widening at the taste because he smiled. I sighed at the delicious flavor, cleaned the spoon off completely, and set it in the sink.

"Ya, one thing Mike doesn't exaggerate is my cooking skills."

I giggled, moving to sit on one of the stools next to the kitchen island. He leaned against the counter across from me.

"So how are you and Adrien?"

I shot him a pointed look.

"We're fine and we're not dating so don't ask."

"You saying that tells me all I need to know."

"Ugh, you're the worst sometimes."

"You don't mean that."

"Ya, you're right."

I glanced up from my hands bashfully. His subtle smile was genuine in a way that only he could manage, I took a deep breath.

"Why do you look so nervous?"

"I don't want to ruin...this. Y'know?"

He frowned, shaking his head.

"We invited you because we knew you would add to our Christmas, not ruin it."

I gulped, looking up to meet his gaze.

"I feel like I will though. I'm not exactly used to any of this-"

"Kid, has it ever occurred to you that we truly want you to be here."

My eyes immediately fluttered downward with the stinging sparks behind my eyelids, I could feel them water before I even attempted to hide it. I took a deep breath, straightening it up despite myself. My voice strained out watery.
