“You’re earning a lot of cookie points already, Ace,” nakangiting singit ni Mildred.

El frowned. She’s about to air her disapproval, but Mildred motioned for her to shut up. Her friend cleared her throat before she read what’s on her phone. “Your sexual and intimacy compatibility is at eighty-five percent.”

“Eighty-five percent only? That’s low,” the guy beside her said.

“Hindi, ah! It’s high compared to others,” ani Mildred.

“Still low for me. Is there a way to improve that?”

“Sabi dito, you could have trouble connecting on an emotional level if Capricorn doesn’t fall in love deeply enough or has trust issues,” tumingin si Mildred kay Ace, “which, unfortunately, characteristic nitong kaibigan namin. So, kung gusto mong mapataas ang percentage, make sure she falls in love deeply and mend her trust issues.”

“Noted. Thanks. Are there any other areas I should focus on?”

“Let me see! Let me see!” ani Trish na halos agawin na ang cellphone kay Mildred. “Trust compatibility of… Oh, wow! Ninety-nine percent!”

“That’s good,” Ace said, still smiling ear-to-ear.

El looked heavenward, exasperated by all that’s happening around her.

“Communication and intellect compatibility is at eighty-five percent, too,” Mildred supplied. “It says it is not always easy for them to understand each other, but with enough compassion and openness, you can support each other in a way no other sign can.”

“Compassion and openness. Okay. Noted. What else?”

“Emotions compatibility is at ninety percent. Values compatibility is at ninety percent. Shared activities compatibility is at eighty-five percent,” patuloy ni Mildred.

“Skip the article. Go to the summary!” excited na bulalas ni Trish.

Ace chuckled, while El groaned in annoyance.

“Taurus and Capricorn: In summary your compatibility falls at eighty-nine percent.” Mildred’s lips formed an o-shape. She looked at Ace with excitement in her eyes. “Oh, boy! That’s high.”

“But it could still be higher, right?” Ace asked seriously.

Mildred grinned. She bobbed her head a couple of times. “It could be way higher when you work on it. Padala ko sa ‘yo ‘tong link ng article. Basahin mo na lang.”

“Yes, please. Sa GMail ko na lang. Ace Ismael PA. One word lang.”

“Ok-hay! Copy. Paste. Sending,” Mildred giddily answered while fidgeting at her phone screen.

“Sorry for the stupid question, but what does PA mean? Personal Assistant?” Trish innocently asked.

“That was indeed a stupid question, Trish,” uttered El, still irritated, but her friend just smirked at her.

“Philippine Army,” natatawang sagot ni Ace.

“Let’s look at another article,” ani Trish, halatang iniinis siya. “This one. Let me read it.” Kinuha nito ang cellphone kay Mildred, tumikhim muna bago nagbasa. “Taurus and Capricorn are highly compatible. They are both earth signs. They share a lot of similar traits: hard-working, practical, loyal, and sensual.”

The way Trish slowly read the last word, giving it unnecessary emphasis, made Ace grin mischievously. El scowled. She looked at Ace annoyingly, but the guy just winked at her.

Mildred chucked. Hinigit nito palapit ang seafood carbonara. Bago sumubo ay tumitig muna ang kaibigan sa kanya. “I can’t wait to see how your story unfolds. It’ll surely be one for the books.”
