The rest of us in the group hopped off the stage as well, and we all headed out for the gym wing of the school. On our way, Skyler pulled me back a bit while the other two kept walking ahead.
"Why did you spin the truth about our parents to them?" Skyler asked me in a hushed voice while we were slowly walking.
"Because we don't want to scare off our new friends." I whispered back.
"Or they would be just around us for our money. Just like mom and dad." Skyler said softly while looking down at the ground.
I looked up at America and Meghan in front of us while we were following them. They were talking and laughing about a joke they heard the other day.
"I don't think they would do that to us." I said softly to Skyler while smiling at her.
"Are you sure?" Skyler asked me in a whisper while fidgeting her hands a bit.
"Yes, I'm sure." I replied with reassurance and put my hand on Skyler's shoulder for a second before returning it to my side.
Skyler nodded with a smile. The both of us walked a bit faster to catch up to the two girls who were walking quite fast.
When we finally reached the gym area, I was amazed at how huge it was. There was the big main gym, a smaller side gym, and some fitness rooms around in the area. I looked down the hallway by the gym area, and noticed that they even had a pool at the end of the hallway! I could tell from the smell of chlorine wafting its way from the hallway doors.
"Wow." That was the only thing I could say for the moment. I couldn't be more amazed at what this school had to offer.
"Yeah I know, our school is well known for the arts and athletics programs." Meghan smiled with enthusiasm.
We were standing in the foyer of the gym area, so we were out of everyone's view. However, my curiosity was getting the best of me. For some reason, I really wanted to see the interior of the main gym.
"I really want to see the main gym." I said with a slight smile.
"Are you sure? Principal Herrera really wanted you and your sister to be on the down low?" Meghan asked while grabbing my arm. I looked at Skyler and she looked like she was pleading eyes to not do it.
"Yes I'm sure." I replied stubbornly and shrugged Meghan's arm off me. I started to walk through the main gym doors.
"I don't think that's a good idea!" I heard America call out to me, but I ignored her.
I was going to look around the little corner the bleachers provided, but I was pulled back into the direction of the foyer! I turned to see my sister and our two new friends looking at me.
"What?" I asked with a hint of annoyance in my voice.
"Do you really want to be in the public eye right now? We're trying to hide our celebrity status!" Skyler whisper-yelled at me.
"I know, but I don't care if we're famous or not! I want to be normal like our brother!" I whisper-yelled back with tears forming in my eyes.
There was a couple seconds of silence before I turned to storm off to sulk in peace. Apparently I went in the wrong direction because as soon as Skyler was trying to get me to go towards the foyer, I realized that we were now standing by the bleachers! We were out in the open! Skyler and I looked at each other with wide eyes, worried about what was going to happen next. To our surprise, however, nobody noticed us or even looked in our direction. I scanned through the bleachers quickly to see what was what. All of a sudden, one of the gym teachers came up to us! I stood by the end of the bleachers with Skyler standing nervously behind me while holding my arm.
"Can I help you guys?" the gym teacher asked me and my sister with a curious look.
"Not today! I'm sorry Mr. Jenson!" Meghan smiled while rushing up to us.
"O-oh ok." the gym teacher, Mr. Jenson said with a confused look.
"Yeah, we gotta get going!" America smiled as well while helping Meghan get us out of the main gym.
As the four of us scrambled to get out of the gym, I turned back to see the most handsome guy look at us from the group of popular kids! He gave me a smile and winked. I blushed in secret while getting pulled into the hallway. We tried to have a conversation back out in the foyer, but you guessed it, the end of the fourth period bell rang! Our group decided to go hide by the pool hallway because it wasn't being used by the sophomores or juniors during the school day yet.
Great, this is going to be a very fun school year for me!, I sarcastically thought to myself.
