Lily's locket above ^^^

Ch. 1

~Lily~

I run, glancing behind me at my burning pack. I have no idea where my brother is. I hope he's okay. I look to my childhood home. Please be okay. To my alarm the front door is wide open. "Mom! Dad!" I scream once inside. This is all my fault. If I had stayed home instead of going out to celebrate my brother, Liam, and my 21st birthday I could have protected them. I should've stayed. My mom even offered to cook us a special dinner, lasagna, our favorite.

I walk into the living room to find a still steaming cup of tea sitting peacefully on a table in the corner next to my mom's rocking chair and the day's newspaper on my dads leather chair next to it. On the floor my mom and dad are laying on the ground, holding hands.

I speed over and fall to my knees next to my mom. Her body is covered in blood and bruises, the same as my dad. "Mom, no." I whisper. I look up to my dad, his labored breathing silently showcasing the ending of his life.

I hold my dad's face in my hands. "Flower, are- *cough* are you okay?" He says, his eyes cracking open. I nod. "Dad, stay here, stay awake, please." I say with tears running down my cheeks.

He starts laughing with his deep voice before coughing harshly. "I wish I could, my flower. Alas, the Moon Goddess calls to me. I love you, little flower. Remember that." He says with a faltering smile, reaching his hand up to cradle my face.

"Come." He says. I lean forward and he places a soft kiss on my cheek over my tears. "I want you to promise me one thing." He says shakily. I nod. "Anything." I sob. "Live. Live your life. Find your mate. Have pups for me to watch over. Make friends. I love you so much, my flower. Tell your brother I love him, if he's alive."

He turns his head to my mother, squeezing her hand. Her head slowly turns to him. "Kylie. My beautiful mate. I love you. I love you to the moon and back. I'll see you soon, my lovely mate. My Kylie." He says, ending his speech with a coughing fit.

"Dad, please. Don't go. I beg you. I can't do this without you." I sob, tears running down my face. "I'm sorry. I love you. Flow- *cough* My flower." He says as his eyes slowly close, his hand dropping from my face.

"Lily, come here." My mother weakly says, her own tears running down into her hairline by her ears. "Mom." I whisper. "My locket, take it." She says. I reach behind her neck and unclasp it and put it around my neck.

It's a fake silver locket with flowers engraved and a blue stone sitting above. I open it to find two pictures, one of my parents on the day they met, and one of Liam, my parents and I on Liam and my 18th birthday.

"Your father got it for me when we first met. He left that one side empty for when we made a family. He told me we would pass it on to our first daughter, to eventually fill with her own photos." She says with a weak smile.

I close the locket and look at my beautiful mother, her dark curly hair around her head like a halo, her bright hazel eyes glistening with tears. "Lily, I beg you, run. Run and don't look back. Please. For me, for your father. Like he said. Go and live. I love you so much. I'll forever love you. Find your mate. Find your brother, find Liam. Don't fall apart, if you do, he can help you, so can your mate. Goodbye, my love. My beautiful daughter. I couldn't be prouder." She says, pulling me down and kissing my forehead. I kiss her forehead back and rest my forehead on hers.

We stay like that until she takes a shuddering breath with her final words, "Goodbye, love, my daughter. I'll see you soon, my Max." Referring to my father. She looks at me with eyes filled with love before closing them for the last time.
