Maria was about to take them off, before Jake came up close behind her and took them off for her, only now realising how much taller he was than her. He didn't out the headphones on, but the volume was so loud he could just about make out the faint music. If Mandi was right about Maria listening to her own music, she was talented as hell.

He handed them back to her. "Thanks for the help," she said, semi-sarcastically.

"You're welcome," Jake smiled, bouncing into the living room. Maria wondered if he was joking around, or if he genuinely couldn't read when she was joking or being sarcastic.

They all sat down on the couch. Mandi sat next to Johnnie, and Maria wanted to sit next to Mandi, meaning she also had to sit next to Jake. She didn't know why Jake hadn't sat next to Johnnie. She pulled out her phone to text Mandi, suddenly appreciating the privacy screen protector that she'd initially deemed as 'useless'.

They put a movie on, but Johnnie and Mandi seemed to get caught up in a different conversation straight away. Maria was on her phone, and Jake had avoided making conversation with her since she seemed to be busy, but he soon got bored and restless, so stopped looking at the TV, turning his entire body to face her. Maria heard the movement next to her, stopping herself from smiling at how invested he seemed to be in a conversation that hadn't even started yet.

"So, Maria, what kind of music do you listen to?"

"Um, a mixture, I guess. I like all kinds of alternative genres. My favourite band's Pierce The Veil."

"Shit, I love them! You know, I make music."

"What kind of music?"
