It all started on Yasmine's first day of high school.
Well, her first day of high school in Korea. She would be going to the 11th grade. Her mother thought it would be okay to send her off to live with her father for the rest of her school years. In Korea. Fifteen hours away.
Of course, Yasmine was opposed, she would be leaving all her friends in Atlanta, her family, and everything, but her opinion meant nothing to her mother. So, Yasmine was shipped halfway across the world to live with her father's side of the family (including his two sons and wife).
Yasmine had no issue with her father's new family, they fed her, bought her clothes, and provided a roof over her head—everything a parent should do.
No, that wasn't the issue.
At her new school, Seoul School of Performing Arts (Department of Theatre and Film), she sat in the back, since her last name started with a z. She was introduced as Zhong Yuehua since that was the name her father had given her. It had all taken some getting used to, New name, New country, New people, New environment.
For the first month or so, seeing as Yasmine (or Yuehua) only knew basic Korean, she couldn't talk to anyone, or no one would talk to her. Until maybe a month later, she made her first friend. Hwang Minyeo was born in North Carolina. Charlotte, to be exact, but she moved to Korea 5 years ago.
They were grouped together for a group film project, along with a pretty girl, slender and tall with long brown hair, and a boy who was Yuehua's height. He had a toothy smile and was kinda cute.
That was the issue. He was the issue.
Since Yuehua couldn't speak to Toothy Boy or Slender Girl, she relied on Minyeo as a means of translating. Turns out, Toothy Boy's name was Na Jaemin and Slender Girl's name was Kim Hwayoung.
"He likes your glasses," Minyeo translated as Na Jaemin spoke, "and he wants to know if he can borrow a pencil from you."
"Oh! Sure!" Yuehua answered, startled. Then she responded, "And thank you. Tell him I like his, uh, wristbands." because she was weird like that.
