Lost in the web of reminiscence, Y/n failed to notice the ground beneath her feet giving way. The unexpected shift sent her teetering dangerously close to the river's edge. In a heartbeat, the serene moment turned into a heart-stopping plunge as Y/n found herself on the verge of falling into the Han River.
Just as the world seemed to slow around her, a strong pair of arms encircled her, pulling her back from the precipice. It was Jungkook, his eyes a mirror reflecting the fear and urgency of the moment.
"Careful there," he said, his voice holding a tremor of concern. "You almost took an unplanned dip in the Han River."
The boy was standing close by, having followed his lady crush from 4 years ago to the river. He knew that she was back in the town after coming from the US and had seen her from the balcony of his house yesterday. Wanting to come in, but stopped.
He knew how stubborn his little love is. The embarassment must've been killing her from approaching to him.
Hence, he himself had decided to take the first step of reaching out to her. And here they are, at the banks of Han river.
Y/n, still catching her breath, looked into Jungkook's eyes, a whirlwind of emotions stirring within her. This was the first time she was seeing him in 4 years and she gulped.
The baby Jungkook she had known was nowhere in sight. The boyish charm that once defined him had evolved into a jaw-dropping figure. What was once a figure akin to a carefree spirit had now sculpted into a hot and chiseled presence. As their eyes met, Y/n couldn't help but stare at him and feel his newfound confidence that radiated from him.
The attraction, dormant for years, now stirred within her as she grappled with the realization that the Jungkook before her was no longer the boy she remembered. The passage of time had etched a different story on him, and Y/n found herself drawn to the magnetic pull of the man he had become.
"Jungkook," she uttered, the vulnerability of the moment stripping away the layers of resentment. "You saved me."
He nodded, a mix of relief and adoration in his eyes. "I couldn't let you fall, Y/n."
His words caused her to immediately blush as he steadied her on her feet.
Now that he is here in front of her, she couldn't resist herself from fixing things and making them right. He was her best friend after all, she can't possibly let go of a friend of lifetime for something so trivial. Moreover, it's been 4 years, she has already moved on from the hurt that was caused long time ago.
"Jungkook," Y/n began, her voice laced with a sincerity that echoed through the years, "I need to say something I should have said a long time ago. I'm sorry for being so stubborn, for letting our friendship crumble without giving you a chance to explain. I let my hurt cloud my judgment, and I pushed you away without understanding your side. I'm sorry for breaking what we had."
Jungkook, his eyes reflecting the ache of unspoken emotions, replied, "Y/n, I should have spoken up. I should have found the words to tell you that staying silent was never about choosing sides. It was about grappling with my own feelings, about watching someone I cared about get hurt, and feeling powerless to stop it. I'm sorry for not finding the courage to break that silence and losing you in the process."
A heavy silence settled between them, the weight of their apologies mingling in the air. The street, once a witness to their laughter, now bore witness to the heart-wrenching unraveling of past mistakes.
Y/n, her voice soft yet resolute, continued, "Jungkook, we were once inseparable. I miss the friendship we had, and I miss the person I used to share everything with. I regret letting pride and pain dictate my actions."
