A World Of Color

I lived in a world with no knowledge of other colors.

A perpetual storm cloud of grey.

Until a pink beam burst through me.

I was stunned. So beautiful.

I noticed it was a person somewhat like me!

I waved. No response.

A blue beam. Then a red, purple and green!

Every color of a rainbow. Right into me!

I waved again this time at each one.

Nothing. While they talked amongst themselves.

I jumped and I screamed.

Hey look at me!

I ran toward them. It seemed like the distance was endless.

I closed my eyes and then took a breath.

I let go of my fear and I became bright white and luminous

A beacon of light others started to see

I noticed each one covering their eyes and walking toward me

With each step they came they faded into grey

One by one they unshielded their eyes

Their faces twisted into something new

I realized too late I had shined to bright

Each face twisting into discontent

The closer they came the darker they became

Clawing and snarling until the shadow was all that remained

Until all light was cast out. Darkness unwavering and hatred they shout

The lesson I learned

As I reflected in the dark

I'm not meant to shine

The grey is me.

Alone, quiet, and unseen.

Once I acknowledged my place

Each of their colors returned

More vibrant than ever before
