Kelly knocked on the door to her house as her mom opened it up.

"Oh, Dria! I didn't know you were coming over mi queridas; come in, come in." she greeted us with a warm smile

"Ay, mi querida, ¿perdiste peso?" She cupped my cheeks
(Oh, my dear, have you lost weight?)

"Mami, Dria can't speak spanish." Kelly remarked

"En realidad no, Señora Haven." I chuckled
(Not really, Mrs. Haven.)

Kelly turned to me with wide-eyes "¿Desde cuándo aprendiste a hablar español?"
(Since when did you learn how to speak Spanish?)

"I downloaded Duolingo for fun." I shrugged as we walked over to the kitchen

My phone beeped, it was a message from my dad.

"Who's that?" Kelly glanced over to me

"It's just my dad." I tried to respond to the message

"Oh, speaking of your dad, mi querida; how is he doing?" Mrs. Haven chimed in

"Uhm, he's doing fine, Mrs. Haven." I nodded awkwardly

"I never really got to talk to him. Never got his number."

Kelly and I glanced at each other before she turned back to her mom "Mami..? ¿Te gusta el señor Manchester?"
(Mom..? Do you like Mr. Manchester?)

Mrs. Haven perked up "No! I mean- no, no."

I smiled widely "Señora Haven... Puede decírmelo. Él es mi papá, sabes."
(Mrs. Haven..you can tell me. He's my dad you know..)

Even though I knew she did, I wanted her to admit it out loud.

Mrs. Haven seemed hesitant before sighing "Okay, yes. I may or may not like Ray."

Kelly clapped her hands "I knew it!"

I jumped up and down in excitement "Ooh! Te gusta mi papa!"
(Ooh! You like my dad!")

"Just please don't tell him mi queridas. Please?"

"Your secret is safe with us mami." Kelly smirked

I gave Kelly a knowing look, wiggling my eyebrows.
