the cold light of stars
pulsing in the winter night
cat in the garden
prowling
squirrels sleeping in the elm
slow-hearts
beating in the cold
ice covers the shallow pond
satellites twinkling up-above
captured in the frozen mirror
rabbit,
thumping hard for home
cat claws rake the burrow
cottontails
in the snow
