coyote wandering

the unloved dog,

          slinking in from the prairie

hunt the greenways

          in the fog

warry feralae

children of neglect,

          companioning the moon

run the darkened alleys

           scavenging in packs

throats parched, swollen

tongues hang off the chin

          thirsting in the wild

coyotes slip down Lake Street

          in the twilit morning
