A shorter version of her name and a nickname used by many people, Alexandra does not mind it, preferring this nickname to be used by people she does not know very well.
Salem
Her middle name. Alexandra does not like it when people use this name for her, only people she is close with can call her by this, in any other cases she just does not respond, especially if she has to tell said person a few times not to call her by this name.
Miss Hughes
Used a lot when she is at her job as a secretary. Older people she meets and knows use this name for her as well and she uses it to introduce herself most of the time.

Alexandra's second language. She has been speaking it since she was little so it does sound like English is her first language.

For a few years Alexandra and her family lived in France. She was young enough to easily pick up the language and whenever she goes to the French bakery by her apartment she speaks in French.

Alexandra's first language. Half of her family is Dutch, from her mother's side and so she has been speaking Dutch since she was little.

Personality:
Alexandra is a kind soul. She never wishes harm to anyone, and always tries to do good and not be a burden to people. She is timid, sticking to herself, especially in big crowds and public spaces. She loves her small friend circle, not needing many other people though she is always interested in meeting new people which is quite a bit difficult for her when she is so timid.
Besides this Alexandra can be quite stubborn and sometimes musters up enough courage to talk back to someone, especially at work when someone jokes about her capabilities and that she is not good at it. Alexandra is adventurous, curious, and creative too.
When it comes to emotions Alexandra is very good at shutting people out. This habit developed when her mother was sick and she did not want to be a burden to her brothers. In the years after it only got worse to the point she would not talk about what was wrong in the moment. Alexandra does try though with the people she cares about.

One long scar on her hip from a cut that Alexandra got after falling out of a tree.

Too sweet/timid for her good sometimes, easily closes up when something is wrong/not asking for help, not able to speak in front of large groups of people.

Background:
Alexandra had an eventful youth. Her first ten years were spent having fun with her older brothers, playing in the garden, and going out for sweets or ice cream. Where her father was distant her mother was present. She always came up with fun activities and would often take Alexandra and her brothers to their grandparents, family, and friends.
After that things changed. Her mother got sick and instead of taking care of her mother and Alexandra and her brothers, Alexandra's father only got more absent. He worked every day and did not come home until late hours. It took a while but like her brothers Alexandra would become more distant with her father about it, worsening their relationship which was already on edge.
After her mother's death, her older brothers took care of her, more so than they had done when their mother had been sick. Not wanting to be a burden Alexandra tried to do as much as she could herself. She worked hard at school and did not get into trouble or mix with the wrong people. The hard work in school paid off and she was off to secretary school. With her diploma she went off to New York City, reassuring her brothers she would be alright.
