"A... Mei..?" Mother was about to ask when something fell with a thud behind me. I looked back and saw Chun struggling to climb onto the bed with the little boy. I made my way to Chun before kneeling to set Zuko on the floor.  I sat on my knees, reaching my hand out to help her get up to the bed with the boy. Chun smiled, and Xie Lian moved his hand to open the curtain, revealing the little boy sitting up, trying to watch from the small opening in the curtains. The little thing panicked when he saw Brother and me. He scrambled under the blanket and hid his face.

"Did‌ ‌we‌ ‌scare‌ ‌you‌ ‌with‌ ‌the‌ ‌fight‌ ‌just‌ ‌now?‌ ‌Don't‌ ‌let‌ ‌it‌ ‌bother‌ ‌you,‌ ‌it‌ ‌has‌ ‌nothing‌ ‌to‌ ‌do‌ ‌with‌ ‌you."‌ Xie Lian said as i heard someone shift behind us.

"Your‌ ‌Highness,‌ ‌this‌ ‌little‌ ‌kid's‌ ‌wounds‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌tended‌ ‌to.‌ ‌Now‌ ‌he‌ ‌only‌ ‌needs‌ ‌quiet‌ ‌rest."‌ ‌One‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌imperial‌ ‌doctors‌ ‌said.‌ i looked back, and gave a small nod.

"Thank‌ ‌you‌ ‌for‌ ‌your‌ ‌aid."‌ i said in a small voice.

Brother asked the kids. "Where‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌two live?‌ ‌I'll‌ ‌take‌ ‌you‌ ‌home."‌

The boy ‌shook‌ ‌his‌ ‌head,‌ ‌"No‌ ‌home."‌

"His mother is gone," Chun said, pointing to the boy.

"No‌ ‌home?‌ ‌So‌ ‌he‌ ‌really‌ ‌is‌ ‌a‌ ‌little‌ ‌beggar?"‌ Feng Xin asked. I looked back, and his arm was limp at his side but not broken. I'm glad Qi Rong didn't get that from him. He's as much my brother as Xie Lian, even if he isn't part of my clan by blood.

"If‌ ‌that's‌ ‌the‌ ‌case,‌ ‌then‌ ‌let's‌ ‌bring‌ ‌him‌ ‌with‌ ‌us‌ ‌back‌ ‌to‌ ‌Mount‌ ‌Taicang."‌ Xie Lian suggested.

"He's‌ ‌lying."‌ Mu Qing said  with a cold voice. "They have a place to stay."

Xie‌ ‌Lian‌ ‌turned‌ ‌his‌ ‌head‌ ‌and‌ ‌asked,‌ ‌"What‌ ‌do‌ ‌you‌ ‌mean?"‌

"The‌ ‌homeless‌ ‌street‌ ‌urchins‌ ‌of‌ ‌the‌ ‌royal‌ ‌capital‌ ‌all‌ ‌run‌ ‌together‌ ‌in‌ ‌a‌ ‌gang,‌ ‌and‌ ‌they'd‌ ‌come‌ ‌to‌ ‌my‌ ‌neighbor hood‌ ‌often‌ ‌to‌ ‌beg‌ ‌for‌ ‌food.‌ ‌I‌ ‌know‌ ‌all‌ ‌of‌ ‌them‌ ‌but‌ ‌I've‌ ‌never‌ ‌seen‌ ‌these kids ‌before."‌

Feng‌ ‌Xin‌ ‌was‌ ‌unwilling to believe him,‌ ‌"Who‌ ‌do‌ ‌they‌ ‌beg‌ ‌for‌ ‌food‌ ‌from?‌ ‌You?‌ ‌And‌ ‌you'd‌ ‌give‌ ‌it‌ ‌to‌ ‌them?"‌

Mu‌ ‌Qing‌ ‌glared‌ ‌at‌ ‌him,‌ ‌"If‌ ‌they‌ ‌pester‌ ‌relentlessly‌ ‌there's‌ ‌no‌ ‌other‌ ‌way."‌

"Oh," Feng Xin said.

"Besides,‌ ‌there's‌ ‌sewn‌ ‌patches‌ ‌on‌ ‌his‌ ‌clothes;‌ ‌judging‌ ‌by‌ ‌the‌ ‌needlework,‌ ‌it‌ ‌must‌ ‌have‌ ‌been‌ ‌done‌ ‌by‌ ‌a‌ ‌grown‌ ‌up‌ ‌only‌ ‌just‌ ‌recently,‌ ‌so‌ ‌there's‌ ‌at‌ ‌least‌ ‌someone‌ ‌of‌ ‌age‌ ‌in‌ ‌his‌ ‌household.‌ ‌His‌ ‌family‌ ‌situation‌ ‌might‌ ‌not‌ ‌be‌ ‌the‌ ‌best,‌ ‌but‌ ‌he's‌ ‌definitely‌ ‌not‌ ‌a‌ ‌beggar."‌ i looked to brother, hiding the fact that i wanted to laugh my head off. brother had the same face. I took a deep breath and turned back. Zuko gave a bark. I only then realized that he was still in my arms.  I kneeled to the floor and set Zuko down.
