“I’m not really good at it.” I muttered as Olivia pulled me towards the basketball court.
“Shut up. You’re going to play.” She said.
I gave a pathetic look to Elle who grinned back.
“So, what do you say? Girls versus Boys?” She asked Collin.
He laughed. “Sure. Get ready to lose.” Elle rolled her eyes. “It’s sad that Will, David, Polly and Melanie aren’t there.” She said. “we could have done with more players.”
“We can manage” Martha said.
“Nina. Defense, offense...?” Elle asked me.
“You’re the captain, you decide.” I replied.
“uhh.. No, what are you better at?” She asked me.
“I like both... I guess I’m a little bit better at defense...” I said unsure.
“That’s good. We were never good at defense, I’m quite sure you’ll be good.” She said and smiled.
I smiled back, happy after the compliment.
“Olivia, you and I are offense while... Martha.. you’re defense with Nina.” She commanded Martha. Martha gave a small smile. “Whatever you say.”
“Okay!” She said and faced the boys who were waiting patiently for us to decide.
Dan and Collin were offense and Jack and Pat were defense. Very nice of them to make fat jack to be defense. I’m quite sure if you throw the ball on him it will bounce somewhere else.
We started. The boys started first. I was nervous.. even though this wasn’t a real match or something. I get nervous fast and for stupid things. I looked at Collin and Elle, who checked the ball with each other. How I wish I was in Elle’s place... at least I could touch that ball once more, just after he threw it.
I smiled slightly.
The game started. Collin whizzed past Elle with the ball who made an exasperated face and passed it to Dan. I was near Dan, and I blocked him from passing it back to Collin. I stayed in front of him and I kept blocking his way so that he couldn’t pass. I blocked his efforts of throwing the ball over my head too and he grinned.
I snatched the ball from him and passed it to Olivia who had suddenly appeared near me.
“Good one Nina!” Elle shouted and I grinned at her.
Olivia went out of the circle and dribbled it for a few seconds before she was attacked by Jack. I almost laughed as she escapes while going under his arm. His astonished face was hilarious.
