Count Down

Just A Timer

"Alright class ,take your seats" said Mrs. Brown ....all the kids came filling in and took there assigned seats . Today was the day we learned what the metal rectangle is on our wrists....its also when they start counting down...well at least that's what I've been told.
"So raise your hand if you know what this is?" Mrs.Brown said pointing to her metal strip that has numbers counting down...I couldn't help but notice her metal read 00:58:14. I'm not sure what that means but it sorta looked like a timer.
"Nobody knows what it is? Not even a guess"....everyone stayed quiet "Well this is your magical timer , it counts down your days....the first two numbers are your days....the second two number are your minutes...and your third two number are your seconds. "
"Mrs.Brown what is this thing counting down to?" A girl next to me asked her names Sally but we call her Sal
"That's a very good question Sally....this timer counts down how many days you have left until you meet your true soul mate that you will spend the rest of your life with"
"How do we know its are real soul mate?"
"When you two meet you will combine timers, see boys have the keys connected to there timers and girls have the lock. So you two will know you are meant to be with each other if his key fits your lock on the day your suppose to meet your soul mate" Mrs.Brown looked down at her timer and picked at the tiny lock that I've never noticed on my timer before. She looked anxious and I could tell she was nervous about something.
"Anymore questions before we start activating timers?"
Mike raised his hand "What happens if we don't find our soul mate?"
Mrs.Browm had a flash of guilt and sadness cross her eyes before she answered " Well if you don't unlock your metal strip when the clock reads 00:00:00 then that means ......" She took a deep breath before continuing
"....it means that your heart will slowly stop beating because your very sad you won't have a soul mate ....your true love didn't show up so you slowly die inside out" everyone in the class got quiet and didn't ask anymore questions for the fear of probably knowing the full truth of the special day when your timer hits 0 .....then we all lined up and got our watches activated . We all had different numbers.... So that means nobody in my class is my soul mate...thank heavens because they all are rude and meaners. My timer read 7.6:45:07.....I walked up to Mrs Brown
"Mrs. Brown what does the dot mean right here?" I pointed to my timer and she giggled.
"Well Jane, since there can only be two numbers it has to be expressed different so the 7.6 means 7600 days until you meet your special someone."........
I sighed " That's a long time....I hope they show up "
"They will I promise " Mrs.Brown said before dismissing us for lunch.
