Flashback
The stars, so superb, yet sorrowful in quite a way. He adored the sun-like shapes in the skies like no other. Studying them, knowing the solace and peace within them, was one of his favorite parts to scrutinize, especially when his window to his upstairs bedroom is open. That's when he sees the stars.
When he sees the stars, he feels a sort of peace. Sometimes he even feels misery when they're out. Sometimes he cries in the night, quietly, so then he can remain unheard for being up for long past bedtime. Being homeschooled made it a bit... difficult to do so though.
He's been caught admiring the stars, probably once or twice. Maybe more. They were by his siblings, which hadn't told on him to their cold father, the one who had changed dearly in the span of a couple years. Their father had become more menacing, more abusive. But, alas, cared for his children in his own way.
The boy hopes in the near future he gets to travel into space, exploring the cosmos, perhaps even living there for his lifetime. He wanted to become an astronaut, discovering new planets and galaxies. It was such an adventurous idea to his mother, who acceptedly isn't with them no longer. But any who, he wanted to do what his father could not yet achieve.
He met a boy around the age he was, he was quite the energetic fellow. He also wanted to explore space, as the other kid did too. With these two, they would be unstoppable. Their dreams would be accomplished, and they'll succeed and prove everyone wrong.
But will their dreams come true, or will their ambitions be crushed with no regret?
