I had decided to go to a cafe in an area I had moved too not too long ago, the small city much more relaxed than any big city, but it still was a bit busy.
Yoonbum was also sitting at a small table in the cafe as well. His head down as he was drinking a small cup of coffee. He was quiet, his eyes darting around occasionally, with a sigh here and there.
I decided to be brave and go up to the seemingly sweet young man. "Hello there,"
Yoonbum looked up at the stranger who had greeted him. He looked the stranger up and down for a few moments before slightly tilting his head.
"Hello." He spoke quietly, his voice barely above a whisper.
"What are you doing here by yourself?" I asked innocently, as everyone at the cafe seemed to be occupied, other then him and me.
He looked back down at his coffee cup and took a sip from it.
"Drinking coffee." He answered simply, his gaze still fixed down. His tone was monotonous and unemotional.
"Can I come and drink coffee with you?" I smile politely, guessing he'd just shoe me off.
His gaze went back up to the stranger, his expression slightly changing. His mouth had stretched into a small smile and he slightly nodded in response.
"...Sure." He said slowly as if he wasn't used to accepting invitations to do activities with others.
I got my coffee I had ordered earlier and sat down next to the young looking man. "So, why are you all alone?" I seemed to be repeating myself, since I wasn't too sure of what else to say.
Yoonbum looked over at you and shifted slightly in his seat.
"Because I don't have anyone else to be with." He said, his expression still the same. He looked back down at his coffee. Despite being a total stranger to you, he seemed to already trust you somewhat. He didn't seem to be too cautious of your intentions.
"Oh, I know how that is... I didn't have anyone to come here with either...so when I saw you all by yourself, I thought I might as well come and say hello," I awkwardly glanced around the room.
Yoonbum was quiet for a few seconds. You could tell your comment had resonated with his own experiences. He brought the coffee cup up to his chin. In his eyes was a glimmer of sadness that only lasted for a moment. Once it was gone, he set the cup down on the tabletop in front of him.
"My name is Yoonbum. What's yours?" He asked quietly.
"Oh, I'm Y/N L/N! Its nice to meet you, Yoonbum." I take a small sip of my coffee as well.
Yoonbum went quiet for a few seconds. Just looking at you, a total stranger, made him feel a little nervous. But he enjoyed the small company you had brought him. Your simple existence made him a little bit happier. When he did speak again, he seemed to speak a little faster this time, as if he was warming up to the idea of being at the café with you.
"...Nice to meet you, also." He said with a nod.
"So... do you have any friends?" Well, the answer was obvious, but there was no harm in asking, I mean maybe they ditched him!
Yoonbum looked back down at his coffee and shook his head.
"None that I can talk to." He replied. His tone was a little more somber this time, as if speaking about his lack of friends bothered him.
"Y'know... we can always be friends... if you want..." I smile softly, with a hint of hidden loneliness in my eyes.
Yoonbum didn't like to admit it, but that idea made him feel happy. He knew it meant that he was going to have to put his trust into you, which he was hesitant to do as he had been hurt a lot by others in the past. He decided that you didn't seem like that much of a threat, though, so he decided to say yes.
"I would like that." He said quietly.
"Really?" I had a big grin on my face, which I just couldn't control.
Yoonbum nodded his head. He still seemed a little anxious, though. The thought of having a friend made him nervous for some reason. Maybe it was because he didn't really know how to act around a good friend.
"...Yes." He said slowly.
"So... how old are you if you don't mind me asking?" The young man seemed as though he was a teenager of a new adult.
Yoonbum looked back up at you and tilted his head slightly in confusion. He seemed to wonder why you wanted to know his age.
"...I'm twenty-eight years old." He said plainly, though he looked much younger than that.
"Oh wow, really? I'm only 21! You look so much younger, haha." I was actually shocked, I thought he'd either be my age or younger!
Yoonbum felt a bit awkward when you mentioned his young appearance. He always looked a bit juvenile, which was something he was insecure about. It wasn't something he could control, though, so he just laughed awkwardly.
"...Haha, yeah. I tend to get that a lot."
"But... thats not a bad thing... I actually think you look quite cute. Is that weird? Haha." I brush a peice of astray hair out of my eye.
Yoonbum's cheeks slightly flushed when you complimented his appearance. He had never quite been called 'cute' before. As a guy who had grown up around people who would bully him and make fun of his appearance, you were the first person to ever compliment it.
"....No, haha, it's okay." He replied softly. His cheeks were still a little red.
Yoonbum took a moment to think before slowly nodding his head.
"...Sure, I wouldn't mind helping you get used to the town... I've lived here for a long time now." He said quietly. Though he still seemed a bit nervous, his mood was lighter than before. You made his day, it seemed.
"Alright then, Mr. Yoon, lets go!" I say playfully as I laugh and sit up from my chair
He stood up from his chair aswell. Your use of his name made him feel important to you, so he smiled a little. His cheeks were still flushed from your compliment.
"...Alright! Let's go." He said cheerfully.
