Cassie burst through the door instead of knocking, precisely what I expected from my limited experience with her. Behind her was a woman wearing glasses and had her head buried in a clipboard, seemingly making notes. I almost smiled, seeing her hair dishevelled and her not using technology as her safe haven but rather a pen and paper. In a place that seemed so tech-savvy, it was a funny sight.
"Katya, this is Darcy! Darcy... Katya." Cassie introduced us quickly before moving on to another topic I was already drowning out.
Darcy looked up at me, smiling easily. "Sup?"
I nodded back at her, and a smile crept onto my face.
"Okay, so is there anything you want to bring?" Cassie questioned from behind me.
I spun around in my chair to Cassie, looking at me expectantly. "Bring with me?"
"Yes, to your new room! It is right across from Darcy's and nicer than mine, which I am a bit jealous about; however, I finally got to move out of my dad's space like two years ago, and I remember living with him, so I really cannot complain much."
I looked back at her, shocked. Tony did say he was setting me up with a new room, but I had completely forgotten about it.
And also, "None of this is mine."
Cassie paused, "Oh. Oh, right, sorry. That is okay; getting new things is my favourite thing anyway. I can help you shop. Let's go then! We have so much to show you. Darcy wrote down an itinerary, of course."
Darcy waved her clipboard at me, "My last boss was very Type B, and I think that hyper-focused my Type A energy."
We made our way to the elevator, and I was pleasantly pleased that my few days off my feet had me walking a bit faster than before. They showed me the kitchens and dining area, explained the meal times and schedules, and introduced me to the chef. I didn't talk to anyone, but I acknowledged them. That was more than I had done in years. It felt...nice.
I had liked talking to people before my father showed me why I shouldn't.
The tour continued, and the bottom floor accessible to me included the interrogation and meeting rooms. The bottom floor also exited onto the yard area. (As well as the giant driveway and landing pad, there would be no reason I would go there).
The 2nd floor included the holding rooms I had been staying in, the medical ward and offices I didn't need to know about. Darcy waved her hand when I pressed, "Too much to go into."
I don't doubt that, but I still wanted to know. The third floor is where it got interesting—the training rooms.
We entered a gym area, and our tour was interrupted by two very tall men. Cassie jumped in before I had had a good look at them. "Did either of you get fired yet?"
The blonde man let out a hearty laugh that filled the room. His eyes shone joyously, and his face had a rosy tint, making even his extremely large muscles seem less intimidating. "No, small Lang, we did our jobs. Both of us, surprisingly."
"I'm sure you must be talking about yourself, brother." The other man said in a smoother voice. He was slightly shorter and smaller than his blonde brother, and his hair was a much darker shade. His eyes bore into mine with interest.
He stepped forward with a grace that made it seem like he floated above the ground and held his hand out towards me. He was the opposite of everything my father was. "You must be Miss Semenova."
Immediately charmed by this man, I placed my hand in his. Much more willingly than I had been to touch anyone in this American facility. "Katya."
He smiled, his lips reaching his face like a cartoon cat. "Mmmm, yes, I understand not wanting to be associated with family." He released my hand without so much as a shake.
