It's been a few months since Steve Rogers woke up from being frozen in the ice, and a few months since Y/n's face was the first thing he saw when he woke up. He's been okay, for the most part. He's adjusting to the world right now. But Y/n wouldn't know that, because she decided to keep her distance, in case he decides to hold a grudge against her. She wouldn't blame him, but that's not what's important right. There are bigger things to worry about.

JOINT DARK ENERGY DIVISION

Y/n is currently sitting in a lab at a SHIELD facility with Doctor Selvig and a few other scientists. This...this...thing, they call the Tesseract, just started giving off random energy readings like crazy. Everyone is running around like headless chickens trying to figure out why it's happening, while others are evacuating. Y/n and Clint were assigned to this job together.

Clint Barton, aka Hawkeye, is a fellow agent and good friend of hers. Practically like an older brother. He is currently up in the rafters, getting a birds eye view of the place, while she stays on the ground.

"Talk to me, Doctor." Fury calls out, walking into the room.

'Hello to you, too, Nick.' She thought to herself.

"Director." Selvig greets the man.

"Is there anything we know for certain?" Fury asks, walking over to the man.

"The Tesseract is misbehaving." Selvig informs him, as another scientist probes the cube but it shoots out a spark, causing the man to jerk back.

"Is that supposed to be funny?" Fury asks.

"No, it's not funny at all. The Tesseract is not only active, she's...behaving." Selvig informs, coming to Fury's side.

"I assume you pulled the plug." Fury assumes.

"She's an energy source. We turn off the power, she turns it back on. If she reaches peak level..." Selvig trails off, at a monitor.

"We prepared for this, Doctor. Harnessing energy from space" Fury tells him.

"But we don't have the harness. My calculations are far from complete. And she's throwing off interference, radiation. Nothing harmful, low levels of gamma radiation." Selvig informs him before turning back to the monitor.

Fury wipes his head to him. "That can be harmful." He says blankly. His gaze shifts to where Y/n stands not too far away from them. "Where's Agent Barton?" He asks.

Selvig scoffs, "The Hawk? Up in his nest as usual, leaving Jade down here by herself." He gestures up in the rafters.

Forget to mention, Jade is her codename.

Fury looks over Y/n, aka Jade, who shrugs. He turns to speak into the earpiece. "Agent Barton, report."

Clint climbs down from his spot to join Y/n and Fury on the ground. The three of them walk away from the doctors to talk in private. "I gave you this detail so you can keep a closer eye on things. Can't let Agent L/n do all the work." Fury scolds him like a parent.

"Well, I see better from a distance. And she knows that." Clint says. Fury looks to Y/n for confirmation, she nods to him.

He sighs. "Have either you seen anything that might set this thing off?" He asks his agents, looking between them.

"No one's come or gone." Y/n answers quietly.

"And Selvig's clean." Clint adds. "No contacts, no IMs."

"If there was any tampering, sir, it wasn't at this end." Y/n finishes while looking at the cube.

Fury turns to her, "At this end?" He asks her.
