PROMPT: You were born with a rare genetic condition called retinitis pigmentosa. Doctors throw around fancy words like vision aids and adaptability programs, but it doesn't disguise the truth: your vision is fading. In a few months, you'll be blind.

But then a college intern joins your case. She is bubbly, friendly, and hopelessly optimistic. Being around her brings light to your darkening world. But she's leaving soon for a doctorate program in optometry, and you don't want to hold her back from her dreams—even if doing so means you'll never be more than friends.

You've already lost your vision. Here's to hoping you don't lose your heart as well.
