"That's it?"

"The rest of it is boring and you don't want those."

"I mean, I'll take them but I'd rather have some good stuff."

"Most of them went home."

"Okay, go home. You're tired."

"Very much."

"And now you're not making sense. Goodnight. I'll see you tomorrow."

I head to my locker and change. I toss my scrubs in the bin and grab all of my stuff. When I get out to my car and my phone starts ringing. I answer Christian's FaceTime as I get my car started. It's dark on his side. "Hi."

"Hi," he rasps out.

I pull out of my parking spot, "Why did you call if you're still half asleep?"

"I wanted to check in."

"It's 5:30 in the morning. Are you insane?"

"I would be up in an hour anyway."

I pull into my garage. I don't care enough to take my things into the house. I close the garage, set my keys on the counter, kick my shoes into the corner, and head back to my room to change.

He hasn't said anything else. "Did you fall asleep on me?"

"No. But I think you're going to fall asleep on me."

"There's a chance."

I lay on my bed, "I'll let you know when I'm up. I'm going to sleep."

I'm not sure I hung up before I plugged my phone in. I'm going to knock out right about now.

"You know he wants you to come out for his announcement, right?" Ryan asks me as we talk over the phone. He called me out of the blue.

"I'm aware. I'm doing everything I can to get out there on Thursday."

"Everything?"

"Ryan, you do not have a normal job. I don't think you can imagine what I'm trying to accomplish right now. I'm trying."

"That's not what I meant."

"I'm trying everything. I will be there. I'm booking my flight."

"Should I tell him?"

"No. Don't get his hopes up."

"I won't. I can pick you up. Give me the time and I'm there."

"I will. I'll figure it out."

"Okay. Let me know what's going on."

"I will."

I put my phone down as I scroll through flights to LAX. Bridget comes behind me, "What are we doing?"

"Buying plane tickets."

"Now you're going? I thought HR declined those days."

"They did. I'm going to call in sick. He thinks I'm not coming and is so bummed. I need to be out there."

"I'll cover for you. Don't worry about it."

Ryan: Black car, straight ahead.

I roll my suitcase next to me as I spotted the black car. He meets me in the back, "I was getting worried."

He takes my bag. He looks at me, "Are you okay?"

"I've had a day. But it's fine. I'm here. That's all that matters."

"Let's go. We need to get back."

I open the passenger door and get in. He drives off. "Does he know?"
