"Do you want ice cream?" Weems asked exasperated, Wednesday shook her head. The shapeshifter ran a hand down her face, "Do you want anything for a snack, darling?"
"No!" Wednesday smiled, playing with her pigtails. The little was waiting almost impatiently for her snack but she didn't reach for any of the offered treats.
"Oh, I know something you can't refuse." Larissa sat down on the couch with a smile, patting her lap. Wednesday toddled over to the woman, climbing on her lap. "Milk?"
Wednesday closed her eyes and put a hand under her chin. "No."
Now Larissa was getting worried, "Are you feeling icky?" She raised a hand to feel the goth girl's forehead but she felt fine. "Does your tummy hurt? Do you want to lay down with Mama for a bit?"
"No."
Raising an eyebrow, Weems checked her little's forehead one more time, just in case she'd somehow missed a fever. But Wednesday's temperature was as boarderline-corpsey as it always was. She looked up at her caregiver with an expectant look, repeating what she'd just said as if to clarify things.
"No?"
She nodded her head at the same time. Larissa stared at her.
"So...yes? Yes to laying down with Mama?"
Wednesday nodded.
"No."
"You make my head hurt."
Deciding that they would be going to lay down, Weems scooped up her daughter and carried her to her room. Wednesday put up no resistance, quite happily going along with her mothers plans, even though she'd been denying them mere seconds ago. She smiled up at Larissa, wiggling happily in her arms.
"You are definitely in a peculiar mood today." The headmistress mumbled as she pulled the duvet over them. "Are you sure you're not coming down with something?"
"No." Wednesday replied back as she rubbed her head against her chest.
Sighing the caregiver brought the girl closer to herself, shutting her eyes and deciding to take a nap.
When she woke up next, it was to Wednesday jumping on the bed next to her. Larissa sucked in a breath, sitting up.
"What are you doing, my little darling?" Larissa rubbed her eyes, waiting for Wednesday to stop. When she didn't she rolled them, standing up. "Get off the bed, it's for laying down, it's not a trampoline."
"No!" Wednesday giggled innocently, almost touching the ceiling with her finger tips.
"You are gonna get h-" It was too late, Wednesday's knee buckled and she tumbled off the side. "Oh no-"
The girl sat up with a confused look on her face before climbing back onto the bed, sitting down. She stared up at Larissa, eyebrow raised. Her caregiver pulled her into her lap, kissing her forehead.
"Are you alright, baby?" She murmured, rocking her little in her arms. "That was quite the tumble."
"Hmm...no!"
"No as in, no that wasn't a tumble, or no you're not alright?" Wednesday giggled and clapped her hands. "Well, I guess you're alright..."
She ran her fingers through the girl's fringe, making her squirm happily before she crawled away to go and jump some more. On wobbly legs, Wednesday managed to stand back up, tensing her legs to jump.
"Oh no you don't," Weems pulled her by the waist so she fell into her arms. Her daughter pouted a little, but didn't put up any resistance. "No more jumping. Let's go get you changed, little monkey."
"No..."
"Can you say anything other than that?" Larissa joked as she placed the girl on the changing table, "What has gotten into you today, hmm?"
Wednesday rolled sideways only to be put back in place by the woman. Using her free hand she grabbed the new diaper from below, beginning to change the girl.
"Really, Wednesday. Are you hiding something from me?" Larissa asked as she taped up the new padding, picking the little up. "Because you haven't wanted anything all morning."
Sucking her thumb she placed her free hand on Larissa's blouse. The woman looked down before making her way back to the couch.
"Are you ready now?"
Wednesday shook her head but opened her mouth, continuing to pat her chest.
"Why, I think you are." Larissa tickled the girl's belly, making her squirm."Go on, dear, you have to be thirsty."
"No!" Wednesday laughed, almost bent over double. When her mother repeated the question, she repeated her answer. "No."
Turning her little around so they were facing each other, Weems cupped her cheek.
"Wednesday, sweetie, you can't say no when you don't mean it." She ran her thumb over the girl's nose. "Mama doesn't know what you want now, and that's not good, is it?"
"No."
Holding back a laugh, the headmistress continued.
"You're allowed to say no, but only when you mean it. So if you want milk, what do you say?"
She held her breath, watching as her little one seemed to contemplate her answer.
"Mmm..." Larissa made a continue gesture. "Mmmilk."
"Well, yes, but if Mama asks, Wednesday, are you thirsty?, what do you say?"
"...yes?"
"Sweet victory." Weems thought.
"Yes, that's right!"
Wednesday clapped her hands, before making grabby motions with them.
"Now, Wednesday are you thirsty?"
"N-" Weems gave her a look, making the girl quickly change how she was going to respond, "-es..."
"One more time."
"Yessss..." Wednesday prolonged the s sound, as if it had to be dragged out of her. "Thirsty."
"Okay, good girl for using your words."
Larissa pulled Wednesday into her arms, readjusting her so she was cradled against her chest. She took a moment to kiss her unusually patient daughter's nose, snuggling her close.
Unbuttoning her shirt, she held Wednesday's head in her hand and guided her to her breast. As her daughter began to suckle, Weems stroked her fringe.
"Is that nice, honey?"
Breaking her latch for a moment to answer, she looked up at her mother with a devious grin.
"Nnn-" Larissa gave her a look that said try me. "Hmm. Yes."
Wednesday hummed going back to it, before she felt her eyes close and her mouth go slack.
"Did you even take a nap earlier?" Larissa whispered gently readjusting her hold on Wednesday. She decided to make herself comfortable, laying the slender girl on her chest as she played with her phone for an hour, allowing her to sleep.
"Mama..." Wednesday mumbled in her sleep, grabbing a fist full of fabric before releasing it again.
"Shh... it's okay, baby." Larissa rubbed her back in small circles, soothing the girl back into a light sleep. "I should really wake her up unless I want her up all night."
Weems looked down at her, deciding that the girl needed the rest. She was certainly off today, and Larissa was worried if she was honest with herself. Afterall her daughter had blonde hair yesterday and woke up normal today.
"I should call the nurse later too..." She said out loud before she could stop herself, Wednesday's eyes shot open, "Oh shoot."
"No."
