Chapter One: The Scarlet Mail

Start from the beginning

He hands me a cupcake and tries to smile as I take it.

It's a red velvet cupcake and at the top of it is a "SORRY" written in a red icing.

I look at him and he smiles brightly like a kid.

"You baked this?" I ask.

He nods proudly and I frown at him.

"You never bake"

"Well I do now"

"So you know how to bake?"

"I help my mom bake since I was a child so yeah" He smiles proudly.

"Then how come you never help me?"

He sighs and then shrug.

"I don't wanna disappoint you"

"Right, because not helping doesn't make me disappointed" I frown.

"Hey, I'm trying to make amends here"

"Fine, you're forgiven" I roll my eyes.

"Thanks for being nice to me" He smirks and winks at me.

"Don't do that"

"Do what?"

"Make me fall for you"

"It's not my fault I'm charming"

"True, but you can't flirt with me"

"I flirt with everyone Taylor, you just happened to be gay"

"I have a boyfriend, and you're straight... It's a lose-lose for me"

"What did you see in him anyway?" He smirks as he folds his hand and lean against the wall looking so smug.

"Things I don't see in you" I smirk.

"Uhm... Rude" He chuckles which makes me chuckle.

"He's sweet"

"I'm sweet"

"This is not about you"

"True" He smirks.

"He's a great guy" I blush.

"I bet he is" He looks at me in the eyes.

"Thanks for the cupcake" I smile at him.

"Thank you, for not throwing me under the bus" He smiles, sincerely this time.

I nod at him and we continue working.

Closing the cafe is really easy for me since Jack is helping.

He's a little annoying but he can be nice sometimes.

Jack helps me pull the storefront gate down and I lock it using the key the store owner left me.

"Walk you home?" Jack smiles as he dusts himself.

"Why not?" I smile awkwardly.

"Great! The night is young" He chuckles.

We both start walking along the dark sidewalk and the streets seems so empty.

There are two street lights at the end of the road and those are the only two that seems working.

"You scared?" Jack asks as he puts his hands in his pocket.

"I admit this is a great recipe for a slasher movie... But no, I'm not scared"

"You're tough huh?" He chuckles.

"Not really" I try to smile.

We almost reach the end of the street when we notice a car parked at the side of the road.
