I hope out of bed and look around the room. The lights are out. Nobody is here except me.

Sizzling?
Is that bacon?
I walk out of my room and straight to the kitchen. Mom and Josh are cooking together. They are both wearing aprons and talking to each other and Molly. Molly looks as confused as I am. She's never seen her mom and step-dad act like this, and neither have I. Maybe while they were dating and their honeymoon, but it's almost where Mom was with Dad.
I sit down at the table in the corner of the kitchen with Molly. I spot Mr. Plant near the doorway, just out of sight of Mom and Josh. He's fixated on the two of us. I can see him shaking his head left and right, just a little so that Molly doesn't see. She's focused on Mom and Josh right now, so she hasn't seen her friend yet.
The Christmas tree behind Mr. Plant is still glowing. It terrifies me now. Didn't I die? What happened?
"Are you okay, Alice?"
I look over at Mom. I must look like a crazy person.
"Yeah. Everything's fine."
I hope it is.
