"Okay, listen!" Raghu said grabbing everyone's attention towards him..
"The engagement is fixed on Friday, which is two days from today. Make the necessary preparations. If you need to make any purchases, go and do it tommorrow. Am I clear?" he asked looking at them. They nodded their heads in agreement.
"But Appa, you haven't even told us the groom's name yet. And what is he doing?" Janani asked curiously looking at her father.
"Kathir said the Mappillai's name is Ram Kumar. He is currently working in a sales executive in a company. They are nice family. Kathir told me that he did thorough background research about him before taking forward this relation." he told his family.
"Oh, that's wonderful." Jaanu cheered in happiness. Kowshik and Swetha too applauded.
With that, all of them bid 'Good night' and three dispersed to their respective rooms.

-Janani's Room-
Janani was jumping in happiness from the moment she heard about Anusha's engagement because of two things. First, she is genuinely happy for her first bestfriend cum cousin. Secondly, she is excited to meet her 'Aadi Maama' after so many years. The moment she came inside, she immediately latched her room's door and went to her cupboard to retrieve a small sketch from beneath her designer dresses.
It was a sketch of her Aadi Maama, which she did years ago, when she first realized her feelings for him. Back then, she was just 14 years old, studying 9th standard. However, she was too shy to express her feelings to him. But then, circumstances forced them to part ways and from then on, she would feel happy whenever she gets a glimpse of him in the functions of their relatives. The last time she met him in person was in Kowshik's marriage and after that in one of their relatives cousin's function.
At times when she feels low, this sketch was her all time remedy. She would quietly walk in to her room, close it and take this sketch and keep staring at him, talk to him as if he is present in real. She would then kiss the photo to her heart's content, just like she was doing now.
Daily, meticulously she would talk to the photo, sharing her entire day with it. In the process, she would fall asleep. And the next day, she will hide the photo securely before coming out of her room for the morning coffee.
"Maama! Naa rombha happy ah irruken. Ennala nambave mudiyala! I'm going to meet you soon.. that too.. I can talk with you. How wonderful!" she chirped happily hugging the photo close to her heart and did a small happy dance to random tunes. [Mama, I'm so happy! I can't believe!]

"Padma Nilayam"
"So, I'm nothing to you. Isn't it?" Mangalam huffed in irritation, looking at her husband who was looking least concerned about her tantrums.
"Who said so? Don't assume things." He chided growing frustrated with her continuous nonsense talks.
"I'm not assuming. Your actions prove that to me! How dare you invite that traitor's family to the engagement despite my warnings?" Mangalam spat in anger.
"Look, as I said before, I've invited them for our Anusha's sake. Her happiness. Stop blabbering nonsense." Her husband said in a stiff tone, pissing her more.
"She will ask for anything and everything. But that doesn't mean we need to grant all her wishes." Mangalam said enraged at her daughter.
"I will provide her whatever I can. And this is something I want to give her. So stop scolding her unnecessarily. Infact, you should thank god for gifting you such a precious daughter." he supported his daughter.
"Precious.. my foot." Mangalam spat under her breath.
"So, is this your final decision.. to invite that Savitri's family?" Mangalam asked for the final time fuming in anger.
"Yes, do whatever you want to." Kathir challenged her openly. Mangalam became stunned seeing his boldness but then composed herself quickly and tried threatening him once again-
"Then, mark my words, I will not attend any of your daughter's function hereafter." she vowed in pure anger.
"Go to hell" he cursed and went away having enough of her irritating talks. She fumed in anger seeing him walking away.
"Amma, what are saying?" she heard Aadi's shocked voice from behind and turned to see him looking stunned.
"What am I saying? I am just sticking to my words." she replied coldly.
"Maa.. Amma. How can even say this? Please Maa, take back your words." Aadi said softly crouching in front of her.
"I wont. Why should I? Anyways, my words don't mean anything to you all then, why do you worry so much?" she snapped at him.
"Amma. It means. It means a lot to us." he assured softly holding her hands. This melted her a little.
"Aadi, look at your Dad. Despite my warnings, he has invited that wretch's family." she complained to her son.
"Amma, Janani's family." "Don't call her a wretch. Please!" he said.
"She is a wretch. I won't call her otherwise. You don't need to feel so sympathetic for those betrayers." she said firmly. Aadi closed his eyes for a moment to calm down his bubbling anger before saying.
"Amma, leave all that. You need to attend the engagement. If not for others, for Dolly's (Anusha's) sake, you have to attend. Please Ma" he requested.
"Why? She is root cause for all these! I'm not doing anything for her" she refused without a second thought.
"Amma, okay then. No need to attend for anyone's sake. But atleast to keep up our family's reputation, you need to take part in the function. Just imagine what will our relatives feel when they find you missing from your own daughter's engagement?
"Won't they badmouth our family, brew rumours about us.. just tell me what will we say to Anusha's in laws if they ask why?" Aadi justified.
Mangalam thought for a few minutes before replying-
"Okay. Do whatever you want to. But remember, if that family creates any scene, you will have to face the worst of me. And mind me, I won't even stay back off from stopping the engagement if needed." she warned him.
"Amma, nothing like that will happen. Please think positively." He told her.
"Okay." She agreed finally after a lot of struggles.
Aadi sighed in relief after she walked away. He went to his sister's room to share the good news. The sibilings then rejoiced in happiness looking forward to the engagement day.
To be continued!
