Once upon a time, in a world full of grime, there lived a family of two, a handsome man and his beautiful wife, however, this family was about to be no more, for he hid a secret from his wife for a very long time. Three years ago, Michael felt a pain that no man should have to feel next to his heart, so he did the sensible thing and went to the hospital to get checked and find the source of this pain. After many tests were done, the doctors were able to find the problem.
One of the doctors sat with Michael and told him the unfortunate news, "Mr. Michael, we have done many tests today to understand the nature of your problem and thankfully we were capable of discovering what is wrong. But, I unfortunately have some bad news, most of the tests we did came back with normal results and at first nothing wrong came up, so we had some suspicions and tested for cancer, unfortunately, the results came back positive and the reason for this pain you felt is lung cancer. However, don't fret, for we caught the cancer in an early stage and if we provide you with the necessary treatment you have a high chance of survival, we just need you to sign this agreement so we can start with your necessary treatment as soon as possible", Michael put himself together and gave it some thought, then decided to sign the agreement and with that his treatment would begin.
After that discovery, he went back home to his wife who knew nothing about what had happened, but instead of telling her the truth, he decided that it would be best not to worry her and told her that he had a lot of work and that is why he was late. After that, Michael continued to get treatment for the next few years without ever mentioning a thing to his wife. Unfortunately, one day during treatment, his condition became much worse and the treatment plan he had was not going to work anymore, they had to remove the cancer tumor as fast as possible through surgery.
Michael was taken into a room where he stayed and awaited his surgery, during his wait, he couldn't stop thinking that his life is coming to an end and he will no longer see his wife, so he wrote her a letter asking her to continue enjoying her life even if he is no longer there, and as he finished the letter, he received a text from his wife saying "I have a surprise for you, I can't wait for you to get home to hear the good news!" then the doctors came in and took him to surgery before he had the chance to tell his wife.
In the meantime, the hospital asked for his wife to be escorted here so she can be there for him in his time of need. At first, the surgery was going well but as it reached the end everything went wrong and as a result Michael went into a coma and was escorted back into his room. After a while, his wife arrived and was told about everything that has happened and after refusing euthanasia for her husband, she went in to see him.
A reality that defied all logic, a reality that only exists in dreams was what Michael was experiencing during that coma, however it was forced to an end when he heard a familiar voice, the voice of his wife telling him that she's here for him and she'll never leave his side then revealing that their dream came true, she was pregnant. What he heard turned his dream into a life where he experienced everything his wife talked about every day she was with him at the hospital, he lived the life of his dreams in a dream. However, that life was interrupted, the dream ended when Michael was incapable of fighting anymore and his heart started slowing down as he heard the screams of his wife begging for help. But help was unsuccessful, and that day Michael died.
A life of pure happiness and bliss, a life like no other, a life more than anyone could have even thought to wish for. Gone in an instant by a blinding light like no other, even his closed eyes were unable to keep that light away. He knew life was over, and all that proceeded is but the unknown, but was that which is not known this never ending torture to eyes? Is this all that was waiting for him after all he has seen and experienced in his life? A few minutes later, what was torment to his shut eyes was no more and the worry that he had to endure that torture for eternity also disappeared with that light, slowly he opened his eyes and upon looking around for the first time after what felt like ages, he shouted and screamed "I'm blind, I can no longer see".
He failed to see what was right in front of him, blinded by the tears and fears of being unable to see, he failed to see that he in fact can see, only after he cried and screamed from fear did he notice that obvious truth. To his surprise, he was not blind, instead he was surrounded by utter darkness, where he and only he is what is visible. He walked and walked for miles searching for something different, something other than that wretched darkness that surrounded him, until he reached a lonely desk in the middle of the darkness.
On top of the desk, stood a tape player and a screen, inside the first of its shelves was a tape that was titled "You". As anyone in his place would, Michael put that tape inside the player, "Welcome to what is between life and the beyond, a place where you witness your past, remember your lives and relive what you lived" the tape showed, then after that he witnessed his birth and every step of his life, the good, the bad and what was forgotten, he stood there in shock, even in awe at what he saw, and he watched it once, twice, thrice until every memory that was gone came rushing back.
After that, he looked into the second shelf and another tape was found, this one was titled "How To Reach The Beyond". Michael, yearning for an answer for how to leave this unending darkness, hurriedly put the tape in and more words appeared "You all used to live and now you do that no more, from dying peacefully in sleep or experiencing death full of gore, you all at last, reach the same darkness that shows your past, you all search the darkness for a clue, but the key to escaping the darkness is always with you", then the video ends.
Perplexed and confused, Michael sat there trying to figure out what was meant by what he read, but when he couldn't figure out what was meant, Michael punched the screen only for something to fall out of it, a wooden box. Michael tried to open it but to no avail, so he started to recall what he read, only to notice that the last sentence was hinting at a key being with him, so he searched his clothes up and down until he found that key and opened that box, inside was a button, a big red button.
That button had a paper on it that said: "You who has been through birth, existence and the beyond, you have finally reached the end of your life, and it is time for you to discover what happens after all that you've been through, it is time for you to reach the result of all the years you've lived in this life. It is not a reward that you will receive, nor is it a punishment, for that is for a time far from now. What you'll receive is far more important and impactful than anything, it is...", before Michael could finish reading the paper, the blinding light returned and he could no longer see the paper he held in his hand. Then he could no longer feel that paper, Michael could only hear a loud endless beeping sound that never stops.
