"Professor Moriarty, can you promise us that you will take care of our girl?" a man was sitting in the office of William Moriarty. "Monsieur, I can assure you that your girl will be safe in my hands, this school is very safe" William explained. "We understand that, but our girl is very precious to us and there aren't many young women like her" the woman spoke. "Madame Moreau, you have nothing to worry about, I care deeply for every one of my students, Y/n is in very good hands" Will reassured her. "Ambre, I think we should trust him" the man said to his wife. "Arsène, you're right, thank you so much Monsieur" Ambre stood up from her chair.

Her and her husband left Professor Moriarty's office and walked to their carriage. "I hope we're making the right choice" Ambre said to her husband. "Ma chérie, I trust Professor Moriarty, besides, we can't teach Y/n everything." Aresène explained "You're right, I just hope this school is the right fit for her" Ambre said.  They were the parents of Y/n Moreau and they were from France. For as long as they could remember, their little girl loved to learn and picked up everything her father taught her and then some.

When the time was right, they let her pick a college and Y/n picked one that was in England. At first Ambre and Arsène were quite nervous, however, they started to calm down once they realized Y/n wasn't a little girl anymore and she needed to spread her wings. They trusted Professor Moriarty, but they didn't know how accepting the school would have been for an educated woman.

Two months had elapsed since Mr and Mrs Moreau met with William and a new school semester had started. Y/n was ecstatic for this new start, it was her first time away from France without her parents and she wanted to see what was out there for her. Y/n got ready that morning and put on a navy blue button down shirt with the puffed sleeves and put on her skirt that matched the shirt. She grabbed her materials that she needed for class and she was on her way.

Two boys saw Y/n walking to class and they decided to talk to her. "Excuse me miss, do you go here?" one of the boys asked. "Yes I do!" Y/n replied happily, with a slight French accent. "What class are you off to?" the other boy asked. "Mathematics class with Professor Moriarty" Y/n replied. The boys looked at each other and then back at her. "We're headed there too, if you want we can walk with you" one of the boys said. "No thank you, I think I can handle myself" Y/n politely rejected them and carried on.

"Did she just turn us down?" one of the boys asked the other. "I think she did" they were still in shock. "I'll show her" the other one said. "We will see how long she'll last here" they were up to something.

When Y/n arrived to her class, she smiled at Professor Moriarty and introduced herself. "I'm Y/n Mordeau, it's very nice to meet you professor" she said. "Enchantée Mademoiselle" Professor Moriarty said. "Vous parlez français?" Y/n asked. "I know a bit, but I'm not fluent" Professor Moriarty admitted. "Interesting" Y/n took her seat and waited for the lesson to start.

The classroom was huge. The desks curved and had a staircase affect and the chalkboard was the biggest Y/n had ever seen. The classroom wasn't entirely filled, but there was a good amount of students there. Professor Moriarty looked at the clock and then he began his lecture.

"Welcome to Durham University" he spoke to the class. "Every single one of you should be honored to be here, in this day and age, many people do not have a proper education and everyone here has the luxury to attend a school like this" Moriarty explained. "How much does the dean pay you to say that?" one of the boys asked. It was one of the boys who was talking to Y/n earlier.

"...Pierce was it?" Professor Moriarty asked. "Yes" Pierce had a troublesome grin on his face. "This is my classroom and I can say whatever I want here, nobody tells me what I can and cannot say because I have the power in this classroom and I sure as hell have the power to remove you...now I shall continue" William said with a smile. "I will be your mathematics professor for this school year and I will teach you to the best of my abilities" he explained.

"Now since it is the first day, I'll teach you guys something simple" Professor Moriarty said before picking up a piece of chalk and writing something on the board. It just read the word 'effort'. Many students tilted their heads with confusion. "In this class and in life all you need is effort. As long as you try your hardest and put your best foot forward, you will succeed. I really shouldn't be saying this, but I do not care what score you get on my tests, I only care about the effort you put into this class. I doubt that you will fail my class, even with complex concepts because I will always be eager to help you, just ask" Professor Moriarty explained.

"I'd say class is dismissed, but staff is going to question me if they found out I held a ten minute lecture" Moriarty smiled awkwardly. "So...get the chance to meet your classmates and ask me anything" Professor Moriarty sat down at his desk. Y/n got up from her seat and made her way to him.

"Professor?" she said. "Yes?" he replied. "I come from France, do you think I'll struggle with the language barrier?" Y/n asked, a little embarrassed. "Y/n....I have heard a lot about you and if the rumors are true, you are a very bright young lady. I am honestly not worried about you at all and if you do struggle at any point, please do come to me" Professor Moriarty explained. The worry that Y/n had, faded away because Professor Moriarty proved to be a reliable mentor.
