In the dimly lit hallway of Hogwarts, Polaris stood with his back against the cold stone wall, engrossed in the enigmatic puzzle before him. The Enigma-Cube, a fascinating magical creation, rested in his hands, each face adorned with intricate symbols that seemed to shift and swirl with a mind of their own. It was a wizarding puzzle like no other, its inner workings steeped in mystery and charm.

Polaris turned the cube in his hands, studying its unique design with intense concentration. Each twist and turn seemed to unveil a new layer of enchantment, and he found himself drawn deeper into the magical puzzle's grasp. The smooth surface felt cool against his fingers, and the gentle hum of magic emanating from it resonated with a subtle energy that intrigued him.

Beside him, Sirius, with a genuine smile on his face, tried to engage his younger brother. He leaned against the window seat, watching Polaris with warmth in his eyes.

It had been about two weeks since they returned to Hogwarts, and Sirius had decided to make a conscious effort to spend more time with Polaris, realizing that he hadn't done enough of that before.

"Still obsessed with that thing, I see," Sirius teased, crossing his arms with a playful grin. "Can't blame you, though. It's a pretty cool puzzle."

Polaris offered a nonchalant hum in response to Sirius' teasing, his focus still completely fixated on the enigmatic cube in his hands. The intricate patterns and colours of the puzzle seemed to capture his attention entirely, drawing him into a world of twisting possibilities and hidden solutions.

"Yeah, it's... interesting," Polaris replied absently, running his fingers over the smooth surface of the puzzle. It was more than just interesting; it was captivating, a challenge that called to his mind and kept his thoughts from wandering elsewhere.

As Polaris continued to twist and turn the Enigma-Cube, he listened to Sirius recount the last Defence Against the Dark Arts class. Sirius had a talent for making even the most mundane stories sound like daring escapades. It was one of the many things Polaris admired about his brother - his ability to infuse excitement into every aspect of life.

"You should've seen it, Pol," Sirius said, his eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. "Professor Volans conjured up these illusions of dark creatures, and we had to face them one by one. It was like a mini adventure, battling them with our spells and hexes. I even managed to stun a Dementor illusion."

Poalris paused for a moment, tapping the side of the cube absentmindedly as he glanced at Sirius with genuine curiosity. Polaris glanced at Sirius. "A Dementor illusion? That's not an easy feat. They say Dementors are among the darkest and most challenging creatures to confront."

Sirius grinned, his eyes shining with pride. "It was tough, but I couldn't back down, you know? Gryffindor spirit and all that."

Polaris chuckled at Sirius' Gryffindor spirit remark, offering a teasing response, "Well, being a Gryffindor doesn't have to define your whole personality, you know. You can be brave and daring while still having other interests and traits."

Sirius rolled his eyes playfully.

Leaning against the wall, Polaris deftly manipulated the puzzle in his hands, fully engrossed in the challenge before him. But amidst his concentration, an unwelcome sensation crept into his ears. A haunting sound, persistent and ever-present, returned to haunt him once again.

He felt his frustration building as he recognized the melody he had grown to despise over time.

Initially, the noise appeared distant and faint, like an elusive echo lingering in the air. However, it steadily gained strength, becoming clearer and more captivating with each passing moment.
