Chapter Five: More Than Friends

“I know right! Male and female cannot be just friends, right!” I said emphasizing the word 'friends'. He suddenly stopped laughing.

“But I'm a male and you're a female, right?”

“But we're cupids, right?” I answered his question with a question and also copied his tone. He slowly flashed a small smile.

“Right, we are cupids,” sabi niya at ginulo ang buhok ko.

“Remember what I said at the lobby?”

“What?” I asked while fixing my hair.

“No relationship, no emotions, just s*x,” he said using the same tone that he used when he said it to me that day.

“Could you please stop saying it, ang bastos.”

“Paanong naging bastos? Hindi nga natin alam ang nararamdaman ng mga tao kapag nakikipag-s*x sila.”

“Yes, hindi tayo nakakaramdam ng sexual arousal pero parang ang vulgar pa rin niyan.”

“Yeah it's vulgar, sa mga tao. Mortal ka ba?” Tanong niya sa 'kin. I shook my head.

“Ayon naman pala. Aren't you curious on why people are addicted to s*x?”

“Paano mo naman nasabing adik sa s*x ang mga mortal?” Inosenteng tanong ko.

Tumawa siya at umiwas ng tingin. Why do I feel like having this conversation with him is kinda weird. We are both cupids but still, magkaiba kami ng gender.

“Listen, magkwe-kwento ako. Huwag ka munang magsasalita,” he said with a serious tone. I showed him a thumbs up. I even acted like I am zipping my mouth.

“My previous task. The task that I pursued after matching Tim and Clarivel successfully is a peculiar one. They are friends. . . best friends.”

Paano naman naging peculiar ang pagiging best friends?

“Best friends with benefits.”

Is there such a thing? Ano namang ibig sabihin no'n?

I frowned at what he said. Hindi muna siya nagsalita, parang nahalata niya na naguluhan ako sa sinabi niya kaya nakatitig lang siya sa mukha ko.

“You have question?” I nodded and he sighed.

“Fine, you can interrupt me with your questions.”

“Ano 'yong benefit? Hindi ba kapag friend mo may nakukuha ka talagang benefit? Like what we are doing? Me benefiting from you because you're always help me?”

“No, no, hindi ganyang benefit. God, why are you so innocent. It's a situation wherein two friends are having s*x but still staying as friends. No strings attached just like what humans said but in their case. . . In Crissa and Ian's case there's a string. And it's actually tied to their pinky finger, the red string of fate.”

“Why do mortals want to have s*x with their friends? Bakit nga ba sila nakikipag-s*x?”

“Out of love or sometimes. . . ouf of lust. Bago mo pa tanungin kung ano ang lust, it's a strong sexual desire na kahit kailan ay hindi natin mararamdaman.”

“So, pure lust ba ang namamagitan sa kanilang dalawa?”

Posible rin namang mahal nila ang isa't isa pero parang ang weird. May na-i-in love ba sa best friend nila? If they really love each other, why would they settle on just being in that situation? Is it even possible if you only look at that someone as a friend.
