Focus On Me • NISHIMURA RIKI

"Good morning everyone" the teacher, Ms. Hwang, says. Everyone lets out a chorus of good mornings and hi's as Ms. Hwang took out her attendance sheet. She smiles at the class before continuing on

"Let's take attendance then we'll start with our lesson"

"So you're bailing me to go hangout with your boyfriend?" Mina says. You had just told Mina about how Niki planned to meet up in the art room so you could draw the latter again, though, it seemed like Mina translated your explanation into something else as she's convinced you were going to go see your so called 'boyfriend'

"He's not my boyfriend! He's a guy friend!" You exclaim

"Same thing! Guy, Boy, its a male in the end!" Mina complains, you decide to not push this argument anymore and get up from your seat

"I'll see you during passing time 4th and 5th period, byeeee" you say, waving the girl goodbye. Mina says nothing more as she too waves goodbye, turning to talk to her other friends as you were no longer there.

You quietly made your way to the art room as you passed many classrooms, most students were at lunch so there were only a few students roaming the halls. As you made it to the art room, you quickly enter and make your way toward a canvas. You set up your things beside you as you waited for Niki to show up. After a while, Niki has yet to show up, you were starting to get anxious as you had a feeling the boy had just bailed you and was just testing your patience all along. You decide to trust the boy a bit and waited a bit longer.

As more time passed, you couldn't help but start to overthink, you knew doing so would cause something you hated very much, but your mind was too clouded to think about that. You start peeling off your skin as you looked at the clock at the corner of the room, you watched it as the clock's hands were slowly ticking, the sound filling up the room. You started getting annoyed with the sound as you covered your ears to try and get your mind off it, though, the sound was already embedded into your mind.

"Dammit" you mumble, you start counting to 10 as you tried to keep your mind off of the things surrounding you, closing your eyes to help you imagine something else

"One"

"Two"

"Three"

"Four"

"Five"

"Five"

"Fiah...."

Your mind goes blank as you forget to count

"Fi-Fiah, what comes after five?" You whisper, you then start to breath harder. You stumble out of your seat as you now realized what was happening

"Dammit not now" you mumble, your eye sight starts to get blurry as you were now crashing into tables around you, you attempt to grab your phone from your pocket while trying to dial your sisters number. Tears began to cover your eye sight as you start to breath loudly

"Please...not now please..." you wheeze, you dropped your phone, unable to get to your sister as you plopped to the floor, you clutch your chest as your mind was filled with useless thoughts

"Someone...help, please" you cry, your sniffles filling the room. And as if your words were heard, the classroom door opened slightly, a person's head peaking from behind it

"Y/N? Where are you?" A voice was heard as you tried to look up to see who it was

"Y/N? Mina said you were here?" The voice adds, footsteps were heard coming towards you as you were heavily breathing, you clutch your eyes shut, scared to see who the person was

"Y/N....? Y/N!" A presence was then felt in front of you as you attempted to look up, you allow your tears to flow out as you recognized the person

"Niki" you say. Niki bends down in front of you as he looked at you with a full face of worry

"Are you okay? Do you need the nurse? Your sister? Anyone in general?-"

"Niki please help, it hurts" you cry, cutting the boy off, your hand was still on your chest as Niki's hands were resting on the side of your arms, you tried moving any kind of muscle to help you stand but you felt too weak to do so

"Ah what should I do?!" Niki whisper yells. You stay quiet as you put down your hand onto the floor, you knew he was clueless so you didn't expect much. A few seconds pass and the panic attack was getting worse, you tried hiding it but your expression showed how you were feeling. Niki was still looking at your dumbfounded as he looked around. He took in a calm breath before sitting crisscrossed in front of you

"Y/N" Niki says, you squint your eyes at him as you breathed loudly

"Look at me okay?" He adds, you tear your eyes from his as you look back at the floor, this was too embarrassing for you

"Y/N." Niki says again, you shake your head no as you stumble out words

"I-I can't" you manage to get out. Niki grabs your hand as he squeezes it

"Look at me Y/N, just look at me please" Niki says. You shut eyes one more time before making eye candy with the male yet again, Niki gives a faint smile as he comes closer

"That's good, keep your eyes on mine" He adds

"Focus on me, just me" He smiles. You began to get mesmerized by his eyes as he looked at you. His expression was unexplainable. Your breathing starts to calm down as you gripped tighter onto the boy's hand, Niki starts breathing with you to help your breathing pattern, making you close your eyes in relief.

A wave of silence then overwhelms the room as you were now calm, Niki kept his hand intertwined with yours as he stayed quiet, waiting for you to say something. You were embarrassed the boy had to see something like that, but at that moment, you really could care less.

"Sorry" you say, getting up from the ground as you let go of the latter's hand. Niki quickly gets up before helping you off the ground, he shakes his head as he held onto your waist

"What's there to be sorry for" Niki says, you shrug as you make eye contact with him again, Niki says nothing more as he keeps his eyes on yours. He parts his lips, a small hesitation following his movements, he stays quiet for a bit longer before continuing

"If that happens again, come find me okay?" Niki says, you were puzzled at his sudden declaration but you decide to say nothing more, you nod your head as you held onto his hand

"I will, thank you Niki" you say, smiling at the boy

"No problem" Niki smiles, intertwining his hand with yours.

"Just focus on me"
