"I told you I'm fine, Nyra," Cerys's voice was muffled by the pillow where her face was hidden.

"Clearly she doesn't think you're okay," upon hearing it she stood up suddenly to look at him, "I come in peace, Nyra was worried about you.

"There's nothing to worry about, I'm fine, you can go," she lay back down with her back to her uncle.

-It seems to me so-, he advanced to the bed-, your parents must also be worried, even Dhagara will be worried if you don't visit her today.

-Dhagara will be fine, nothing will happen to her if she doesn't see me one day.

"Dhagara doesn't like being locked in the well," he reminded her, sitting up on the bed, "what if she escapes?"

His question was met with a long silence in response, but despite the lack of a verbal response, he knew he had hit the nail on the head. Dhagara was Cerys's dragon, she was born only two days after the princess with black and gold scales, she was one of the biggest dragons in the well and, like her owner, she despised being locked up for long, that's why Cerys visited her frequently.

"Uncle Daemon, I don't like spending time with you."

The white-haired boy watched with a smile as his niece stood up and left the room with quick steps, she hadn't even put on her shoes before leaving. Rhaenyra's scream in the corridor was the signal that he needed to move, of course before leaving he made sure to take Cerys's shoes with him, he couldn't let her get hurt under his care or he would lose his mind.

In the corridor he had to stop to ask one of the servants to clean Cerys's room and tell Viserys that they were going to be in the dragon pit. He didn't have the slightest problem leaving the fortress, the problem was outside of it, when his feet touched the outside he heard whispers. Whispers that were addressed to his nieces, the two of them were on the last step waiting for him and they looked visibly uncomfortable with the attention they were receiving from everyone. With a determined look, Daemon walked past the sisters, leaving Cerys's shoes on the ground next to her, his gaze was fixed on the man who was in charge of the stable, he didn't care if the people around him fled from him thanks to his intimidating aura, he needed to know what rumors had spread around the fortress.

-Prince Daemon-, the man took a step back to get away from the prince-, the princesses asked for two horses to go to the well.

"Prepare them," he ordered the other man who was in the place, "what is everyone whispering about my nieces?"

-My prince... we... -, the man looked nervous-, I assure you that it is not bad at all...

Daemon didn't let him finish, he didn't like that they said so many circles to answer a simple question, especially if the answer could harm their loved ones.

"If you don't want to talk then I'll order your tongue to be cut out," he threatened, taking it for him. collar of his shirt-, speak.

-My prince, please, now do something you might regret-, one of the women who was closest intervened-, your nieces are watching.

The white-haired turned his head to look at his nieces and found them in the same place as before, staring at him. If he killed someone in front of them, Aemma would never let him near them again. He had no choice but to let go of the man who took several scared steps back.

"People in the fortress whisper about princess Cerys," the woman began looking at the ground, "many say that with the death of the king she will be the new crown princess, you know, as she is the eldest daughter of the new king Viserys and she was so Close to King Jaehaerys, everyone says that he was preparing her to sit on the throne after her father.

By the time the woman finished speaking, the horses were ready and Daemon preferred to concentrate on making his nieces happy rather than worry about his position in the line of succession, he would have plenty of time for that in the future.

The rest of the day was spent in the pit with Dhagara, Syrax and Caraxes until Viserys sent for them. However, Daemon did not return to the fortress. Both Cerys and Rhaenyra responded to their father's call, leaving Daemon in the well at his request, and neither saw him again until the following day at King Jaehaerys's funeral. Cerys was up to the front next to her parents and her sister, the girl had tears wetting her red cheeks and her right hand was squeezing her father's to avoid breaking in front of everyone. Rhaenys couldn't help but think of the pain Viserys would feel when Cerys released her hand after squeezing it so hard. The woman was behind them and as soon as she saw Daemon arrive she leaned over to speak to Cerys.

"You should do it, honey," the woman whispered in High Valyrian.

"Dad?" Cerys asked in a barely audible whisper.

Viserys's response was a nod. In the greatest pain she had ever felt Cerys let go of her father's hand taking a step forward with her eyes fixed on the lifeless body before them, out of the corner of her eye she saw Dhagara fidgeting on the hill waiting for her. for her to give the order and then she understood that her father had planned everything. After taking a deep breath to clear her mind, she opened her mouth giving the order her dragon was waiting for.

"Dracarys!" she exclaimed with more confidence than ever before.

Dhagara let out a roar before complying with the order by setting fire to the funeral pyre. Cerys could feel the heat of the flames, but she refused to back down, not even moving when the flames died down. Between Viserys and Aemma they had to basically drag her back to the fortress.

The second time Cerys experienced heartbreak was at the wedding of her first love, Daemon Targaryen, but that was an entirely different story.
