"Wednesday- calm down." Larissa begged, taking the fussy girl to the car to cool down. "Please? How about I put on your song- that would make you feel better right?"
Turning on the radio in the car, Larissa turned up the volume to go just above Wednesday's sobbing.
When that didn't do anything, Weems shushed the girl, rocking her side to side in the driver's seat. She wrapped her arms around her, applying pressure in the form of a hug and praying it would help. Freeing one arm, she was about to reach down and tilt the seat back, but Wednesday let out a heartbreaking wail at the loss of contact.
"Darling, just give me a moment, it'll be worth it," Larissa tried, but the girl grabbed her arm and wrapped it around herself again. Huffing, Wednesday snuggled up to her caregivers chest, burying her face between her breasts.
"'ilk."
"I'm trying, baby. If you could just let me-"
"'ilk!"
Deciding to accept Wednesday's momentary cries, Larissa stopped hugging her for a moment to quickly unbutton her shirt and unhook her bra, resisting the urge to plug her ears at the loud crying that her daughter emitted.
"Here, look! Have some milk!"
Wednesday looked at the breast, before turning her head away and lightly hitting Larissa on the shoulder. Larissa leaned back in the seat, closing her eyes.
"Maybe today wasn't the best day to take her out of the house."
There was a sharp knock on the window, making the woman quickly cover up her exposed chest. Turning her head, she saw that Marilyn and Enid were standing there with boxes to go.
"Hey- " The redhead pointed to the door for her to unlock it. Pressing the button the pair got into the car, shutting the door after them. "I figured getting our order to go was better. How is she doing?"
"Being a fussy one today, I don't know what to do. I tried her music, feeding her and rocking her." Larissa turned her head to the little who had quieted down and was silently huffing. "Darling girl, I need to move you to your seat to drive home."
"No!"
"I can drive again, if you want."
"Would you?" Larissa sat up, cradling Wednesday and got out of the car to swap seats with Enid in the back. Marylin got into the driver's seat and started the engine.
"Do you want me to keep playing the song?"
Larissa sighed, rubbing Wednesday's back. "Just in case, I suppose."
The music started up, boring into everyone's eardrums. Weems looked down at her daughter, watching as the song didn't have its usual effect on the girl. Wednesday stayed cuddled up to her, her hands drawn up to her chin as she nuzzled against her mother.
"Is that better?"
Marilyn called from the front seat, checking on the pair with the rear view mirror.
"I'm not sure. She's not crying anymore, at least." Weems looked down at Wednesday. "Better, honey?"
"Mmm."
Wednesday shrugged, closing her eyes and pressing her face into Larissa's neck. She inhaled deeply, enjoying the smell of expensive perfume. The older woman scratched lightly at her scalp, succeeding in relaxing her a bit more.
"Mommy, what's wrong with Willa?" Weems heard Enid ask.
"I'm not sure, angel. She's just fussy today."
Larissa stared out of the car window, watching the trees wiz by. After a few minutes, she nearly jumped out of her skin when she felt icy fingers against the skin of her chest.
"Jesus, Wends!" She composed herself. "Are you okay?"
"Hungry..."
Taking her open shirt, moving it to the side to allow access for the girl, she leaned back in the seat again. Soon Wednesday latched on, slowly suckling from the shapeshifter.
"She alright? You sounded surprised." Thornhill called back.
"Yeah, she is just always cold and I was not expecting an ice cube on my nip."
"Ewww." Enid stuck her tongue out in disgust. "Mommy, how far are we from the school?"
"Five minutes?" Marilyn drove a little faster at the sound of her own daughter being grossed out. Better safe than sorry, the girl was still not over the last time.
"Okay..." The blonde laid her head against the window, watching the trees become almost a blur.
"Is Enid still grossed out by this?" Larissa asked light-heartedly, "Enid, dear, be lucky you didn't try to feed off me when you were little little."
"Why would I?"
Marilyn laughed remembering when Wednesday tried to feed on her. "Wednesday tried to on me. Isn't that silly?"
"It's gross."
Wednesday soon had her fill of milk and unlatched. Weems manoeuvred the goth to her car seat for the last minute of the drive, not bothering to buckle her in. The raven haired girl looked at her cautiously.
"We're here so there's no need." Larissa answered her unanswered question. Wednesday seemed satisfied with that, closing her eyes. "Hey, don't go to sleep yet, wait till we're home."
Wednesday ignored her, snuggling up in her seat. The woman sighed as the car stopped and the keys were taken out. Marilyn tossed them back to her, and Weems easily caught them.
"Thanks. See you tomorrow, I'm going to take this one back home."
She gestured at her daughter, who was half-asleep in her car seat. Thornhill grinned as she picked up her own slumbering daughter, hoisting her into her arms.
"Yep! How about a picnic tomorrow?"
"Sounds good, see you then!" Weems lifted Wednesday onto her hip, kissing her nose to wake her up a bit more. "Hey, W, we're home now."
"No."
"What do you mean no? Yes we are."
Wednesday giggled and hid her face in the shapeshifter's neck, closing her eyes.
"Ni ni, Mama."
Chuckling, Larissa walked into her room and laid down with the girl. "Night, dear."
