Chapter 32. Death is closing in. 🛠️

Start from the beginning

No. This can't be happening, right? He can't have drowned yet! No. Im not believing this. This isn't real! This isn't Iruma.

I burned away all the weeds surrounding him, quickly pulling his body to mine. This can't be happening again. No. First they took my father and now they took..

No, I'm not giving up! Im not letting him die here. He can't die here, after he has so much to live for. He is always so happy, and he's the brightest being in my life.

I won't allow it to end here.

I then held him tightly, swimming up to the air above. The salty water was pricking in my eyes, and my body felt weak. Eventually we got up. I gasped for air as I came up, and gasped for more when I began swimming. I have to be as fast as I can, I can do this, I'm sure lf it.

I then raced to the beach, swimming as fast as I could, but there was a feeling in my stomach, growing larger and larger that I wasn't going to be fast enough.

I waited too long.

Eventually I got on land, my knees buckling. "Help!!!" I shouted, hoping one of my classmates would hear me. They were all having fun in the water, not knowing even a little how dangerous it was. But I didn't reach then, I wasn't loud enough. I then screamed again. "Please somebody help!" I couldn't help but feel hurt. I felt tears running down my face as I tried again, and a again, my shouts getting more and more quiet the more I screamed. I still had Iruma in my arms, pale, not breathing, unmoving, dead.

I then finally saw someone looking at us, rushing up to us. It was Kalego. I tried to explain, but he shut me up as soon as I tried. "Lay him down." He demanded. "He isn't dead yet."

I then layed him down, sitting next to Iruma in the soft sand. He then told me to open his mouth, and I did. Professor Kalego then muttered something, making water come out of his mouth. He then did it again and again untill there was no more water coming out. But he still wasn't breathing.

My arms were barely holding myself up to this point. Then another figure came rushing here, his butler, Opera.

"What happened?" He asked panickedly, seeing Iruma unmoving in the sand. Again I tried to explain what happened, but no words would leave my mouth this time either.

Kalego was still muttering the same spell, and I was having a mental breakdown on the sand. Opera was checking his vitals, but it wouldn't matter anyways. It got about one hundred times worse when Professor Kalego's legs began disappearing. He himself then also seemed panicked.

Opera then seemed to chant a few spells himself too, you could see Iruma's chest going up and down, but Kalego's legs were still disappearing.

Everything went white for me, the pressure was way too much. But I couldn't pass out now especially since Iruma needs help.

I thought everything was over, that everything had been for nothing. But then something I never expected would happen happened. Kalego's legs were coming back, and both Kalego and Opera stopped chanting. Iruma's chest was still moving, and Opera checked his neck again. He then came to me and grabbed my hand, placing it on Iruma's neck. "His heart is beating, he's going to be fine." He said. "Do you think you could tell me what happened now?" He then asked, sitting besides me.

There were no words coming out of my mouth, just sobs. I felt so relieved. He was going to be fine, he was going to live. He won't leave me.

Iruma's butler then stood up to talk to Kalego while I watched Iruma. My hand was still on his neck, and I would hold it that way for a while. Eventually Opera came up to me again. "I think its best for Iruma and you if you get some rest. I just talked to Kalego and he seems to agree. I'll talk to you later about what happens, okay? For now just go chill in your room, I'll bring Iruma to his."

I nodded. He then scooped up Iruma into his arms and carried him to the beach house, he then grabbed a towel and placed it on the bed, and then placed Iruma on the towel. After he placed him on his bed he closed the door and looked at me.

"You can either go relax in your room, or keep an eye on Iruma." He said. "I know you are still worried about him, even though hes okay now. But you should take a rest too." He then said, walking to the door. "If anything happens, call me. I'll come by later to talk with you about what happened, okay?" He asked.

I nodded, and he stepped out the door, closing it behind him. I then got changed into dry clothes and went to Iruma's room, grabbing a chair and waited. Waited untill he would wake up.

I watched him for about an hour, watching his chest rise and hearing him breathe. I don't think I've ever been this worried about him before, not even when I discovered that he didn't have any wings.

From now on I'll make sure to watch him more closely. I'll make sure he's safe. I've failed to do it today again. After the harvest festival was my first mistake, my second was when I discovered he got his wings ripped out and the third when I almost let him drown.

The guilt in my chest was building up slowly, but it was alright. Iruma was alright.

Suddenly, Iruma's hand twitched. Then it twitched again. Then his leg twitched. His breathing became faster and he moved his head. "Please don't leave me here." He muttered. I froze in place. "Please don't leave me." He muttered again.

"Iruma?" I asked, towering over him. "Iruma, are you awake?" I then saw him twitch some more before he gasped and sat up. He then plopped right back down, and I looked at him, extremely relieved he woke up. "You're awake.." I said. I quietly repeated myself before completely realizing. "You are awake!" I screamed, hugging him.

"Mhm." He said, complainingly protesting against my hug. I slowly let go of him, giving him some space.

"Where am I?" He asked, his eyes hanging half open. "You are at the beach estate now." I replied, smiling.

"What happened?" He mumbled. "Last thing I remembered we were swimming back to get icecream. Oh, wait. I think I remember now. Something was grabbing my leg."

"Yeah." I replied. "A piece of seaweed pulled you down to the bottom, and then did the same to me two minutes later. You were covered in them."

"Wasn't it kelp?" He then asked, confused. "Im pretty sure it was kelp and not seaweed."

"Yeah, it might have been." I then said. "I don't really know the difference.

"Well, kelp is longer and darker and- This doesn't matter. How did we get out?" He then asked. "Did you save me?"

"I didn't save you, I almost killed you." I said, feeling guilty. He smiled at me. "No you didn't. Without you I wouldn't even be here anymore."

"Only because I left you there to drown." I said. "Not true." He then said back, laughing. He then sat up again, looking me straight in my eyes.

"I promised you icecream, and I think I can walk. So lets get some icecream!" He then said, standing up. "But before we get some, close your eyes and bow down a little." He then said, and I complied.

Was he going to punish me? Slap me perhaps? I did deserve it. After all I was the one who almost let him drow-

But what I haven't expected was a kiss. "This is for saving me, thank you. Now lets get icecream!" He said, taking my hand.

And thus, we walked outside together after the heavy day that we just had.

But what we didn't know is that the events of today weren't over yet, and that the worst had yet to come.
