Starting Over

Skylar;;

I walked down the stairs at the airport, keeping my head down. I was supposed to get on my plane at 8pm but I decided to get here earlier. It was barely 6pm so I decided to rest for awhile. There was a bench close to my boarding gate but unfortunately, it wasn't completely empty. With a sigh, I hauled my suitcases over and sat beside a sleeping woman. The lady inspired me to take a nice and peaceful nap while I waited but it was cut short. Tons of screaming and crying girls rushed after three dark-clothed men and another person. I couldn't quite tell who it was but I caught a quick glance of a backpack and pillow. It was obvious that this person was famous but why would they have so little luggage? Short trip I suppose. While I was awake, I dropped off my own luggage in the correct place. I returned to the bench and tried to fall asleep once more.

(About 2 hours later)

A loud voice woke me from my slumber, much to my dismay. The announcement that my plane had arrived sounded from the intercom. I scowled at the noise of shuffling people and made my way to the boarding station. I found my seat and was happy to have been sat beside a window. Placing my small bag on the floor, I got settled in. I put on my black headphones and played the first song on my playlist. Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood sounded through the small speakers. A sad smile grew on my face as I remembered my mother singing it in the car whenever it came on. I hummed along to the music quietly and closed my eyes. My playlist consisted of tons of songs, most with slow tempos. The flight to California from New Jersey would take about 5 and a half hours so I had downloaded a lot of songs. I was going to meet up my father there. Maybe moving in with him and his new family wouldn't be as bad as I thought. A girl sat beside me, pulling me out of my train of thought. She looked around my age, maybe 18. I was just happy that it wasn't an obnoxious 5 year old. I nodded and gave her a small smile, receiving one back. I turned my attention to the window and relaxed as I watched the buildings get smaller. My eyes closed and I was pulled into a deep sleep.

I woke up to an announcement yet again. The intercom received a deathly glare for this. To my surprise, we had already landed in California. I quickly collected my possessions and exited the plane. Standing at the exit was my father and two little boys fighting over one of my suitcases. I rushed over and took the bag of clothes from their small hands. "Why did Nathan and Thomas have my bag?" I asked and looked up at my father expectantly. Nathan and Thomas were my step-brothers. When my parents divorced, my dad had found someone else before my mom. They had kids while I stayed with my mother. I hadn't been face to face with my father in 2 years. After my mom passed away, I decided to move in with him to get closer even though I'm old enough to live by myself. "They just wanted to help Sky." I sighed and nodded. They ended up holding two of my suitcases while my father carried the last one. I was left to carry the bag that held my electronics and a few snacks. We walked outside and a limo stopped in front of us. My jaw dropped when I saw the driver loading my stuff into the back. Still in shock, I climbed into the backseat and watched as we drove to my new home. This was my chance to have a fresh start and get past my mild depression. I'm starting over.
