Things were different for sure instead of it being the two of them it was the three of them but it was nice
For the first time since Maya's arrival Carlos had left for work, Maya was having a hard time sleeping alone so for the past few nights she had been sleeping with the two of them
But when she woke up Carlos was gone she got out of bed wandering around the house searching for him with no luck she returned to the bedroom and woke Tk up frantically
"Where's Carlos ." She said tears falling from her eyes "Sweetheart take a breath okay.." Tk said rubbing his eyes "Where is he?" She said Tk placed his hand on her arm but when she jumped at the touch "Get away from me !" She yelled, "Okay okay I'm gonna stay right here okay ?" Tk said calmly "Carlos went to work sweetheart." Tk said as Maya cried "When is he coming back ." The little girl asked "Later tonight I'll tell you what .." Tk said grabbing his phone he dialed Carlos and put him on speaker "Hey babe what's up ?" Carlos said softly " Maya wants to talk to you ." Tk said softly holding out the phone for Maya to grab "Maya - sweetheart you okay ?" Carlos said as Maya reluctantly looked at the phone she walked softly to the phone grabbed it from Tk's hands and took it into her own "Why'd you leave me here ?" She cried into the phone
" I had work sweetheart it's not safe for you to come with me... I'm sorry I scared you ." Carlos said softly " I'm not safe here ." Maya said through her tears " I need you ." Maya said
"Maya Tk's not gonna hurt you - he wants to help just like me - you just need to trust him ." Carlos said softly " I'll be home by dinner time okay ?" Carlos said "Okay." Carlos said softly
Maya gave the phone back to Tk
"I promise I'd never hurt you," Tk said softly
"You like pancakes ?" Tk asked as she nodded
The pair traveled to the kitchen where Tk got the pancake mix out "Can I help ?" Maya asked shyly "Yeah of course ." Tk said
"Mind if I lift you so you can sit on the counter ?" Tk asked Maya shook her head Tk lifted her to the countertop "Plain or chocolate chip ?" Tk asked "Chocolate chip ." She smiled "That's always the best kind I don't care what anyone says ." Tk smiled at her as he got the ingredients out
They made the batter Tk let Maya stir whilst he did a quick clean up "How long can I stay here ?" Maya asked shyly "As long as you want ." Tk smiled "I'm sorry I was mean this morning ." The five-year-old said, "You weren't and you have nothing to apologize for ." Tk smiled " I trust you ." She said, " I'm glad ." Tk said putting the batter on her nose the little girl giggled "What do you wanna do today ?" Tk asked as he cooked the pancakes Tk could tell the little girl was confused by the question "What's your favorite thing to do ?" Tk asked, " I love to color ." She said as Tk played with her two pancakes with strawberries and whip cream "Do you wanna go to the craft store and pick out some coloring books and some supplies ?" Tk asked, "You mean it ?" She said
"I mean if we want you to feel at home here .." Tk said, " what do you say after that we go get some stuff for dinner tonight and surprise Carlos ?" Tk said "Yeah!" The little girl said
After their day out Tk took Maya to get ice cream " I can get any flavors I want ?" Maya asked, "Whatever you want ." Tk said with a smile "Cotton candy and candy cane please !" The little girl said Tk gave the guy 10 bucks before they headed to the bench in the park so she could eat her ice cream
"Those are some interesting flavors ." Tk smiled as she crossed her legs digging her spoon into the cup of ice cream "There my favorite !" Maya said
" enjoy being young when your old like me your palette is very boring ." Tk laughed "Why didn't you get any ?" Maya asked her mouth covered in ice cream "Just not hungry ." Tk said with a small smile
They came home and made spaghetti for dinner Tk watched the food as Maya sat on the counter and colored " your talented ." Tk said as he watched her color Maya smiled back at him "Do you not work anymore ?" Maya asked, " I do I'm out on leave for a few more weeks ." Tk said softly "Why did you get in trouble ?" Maya asked, "No I got sick I'm just recovering right now ." Tk said with a small smile
" what we're you sick with ?" Maya asked, " I um - I had cancer but I beat it they just won't let me back for a few more weeks ." Tk said as Carlos came through the door " Carlos !" Maya said as Carlos came and picked her up "Did you guys have a good day ?" Carlos asked As Tk leaned against the counter "We got craft supplies food and ice cream !" Maya said as the pasta boiled over snapping Tk out of his zone Tk hurried and turned off the pasta Carlos noticed Tk was more frantic - Tk looked at Carlos " I'm gonna go upstairs -" Tk said before heading upstairs
"Are we eating dinner ?" Maya said, "We will sweetie just let me go talk to Tk why don't you color until I come back and we can have dinner ." Carlos said
Carlos came upstairs seeing Tk walking around the room "Sorry I just - I needed a minute ." Tk swallowed "Talk to me ." Carlos said reaching for Tk's hand "You have to shower I have to get dinner I'm fine -" Tk said as Carlos cut him off
"That stuff can wait you can't ." Carlos said, "You keep putting yourself on the back burner ." Carlos said, "Talk to me ." Carlos said sitting Tk down on the bed " I just - there's so much change -" Tk said "I guess I'm just - I'm overwhelmed." Tk said
"Im sorry I sprang this whole fostering thing on you - I should have asked ." Carlos said " its
Not that I mean - it threw me for a loop - but I like Maya it's just so much change and I can't keep up -" Tk said
"What do you need from me ?" Carlos asked softly as Tk got up and started pacing "I'm okay - I just - I need a few minutes ." Tk said
When Carlos for out of the shower Tk was on the bed laying on his side "You coming down for dinner ?" Carlos said rubbing tks leg "im not hungry I - im gonna just lay down ." Tk said softly "Babe you have to eat ." Carlos said, " I will I promise ." Tk said
Carlos came down and plated food for the two of them "Is Tk not coming down ?" maya asked, " he's not feeling that great so it's just the two of us tonight sweets ."
