No So Fast, and Furious

Prologue

“Alright, we’re here.” Steve looked over to me, “Have a good day. And don’t get in trouble.” He gave me a stern look.

Thanks dad.” I saluted him before getting out of the car and looking at my new school.

It was small, especially compared to my last school inMiami. This one had about five hundred kids total, or so my father had told me.

I guess this means I also just have to hope that I can make it through this school without any problems. I had heard some bad things about small schools. More or less, these types of schools are gossip central; everyone knows everyone’s business.

I gave one last look bat to Steven, who had not moved his car. I figured he was making sure I actually made it inside the building before he left for work. Would not want me skipping the first day, would we?

But anyways, I looked back to see him giving me an encouraging smile. I gave him a small smile back and waved to him, partially in a ‘you can go now’ motion. But at the same time, I was glad he was here.

With that, I took off for the main doors, ignoring the whispers and stares. Wow, I have not even made it inside and they are all already whispering this much about the new kid.

Unless… I stopped mid thought and sneakily looked down. No, my clothes were fine. I was wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, Vans, a black and purple studded belt and a ‘We Came As Romans’ band tee.

I was trying to dress a little more conservative. Back inMiami you had to look hot, which meant a lot of skin. So after we moved here, I redid my wardrobe.

Averting my eyes back up, while keeping my head high, I finished my walk to the main doors. Even ignoring a few guys on the way. Which is why, as I was about to enter the main doors, I did not notice Dean come up behind me, which gave him the perfect opportunity to poke my sides.

I screeched, while spinning around on my heels, all while throwing my fist towards the face of whoever poked me. Dean easily caught my fist before it connected with his fist.

“Is that how you great me now?” He asked feigning hurt.

“No, but that is how I great people who poke my sides.” I smiled sweetly.

He rolled his eyes, “You heading to the office?” When I nodded, he continued, “Me too. Let’s go.” Dean casually threw his arm over my shoulder while steering me off in the direction of, what I assumed to be, the office.

Dean seemed to know where we were going, because a minute later we were standing in a small office. There were two desks with two older ladies behind them. Both had grey or graying hair and seemed to have the same old lady fashion.

One was on the phone as we entered, so the other waved us over to her desk, “Are you two the new kids?” She asked in a sweet voice.

“Yes.” I answered before Dean could say anything.

The old lady nodded before typing something on her computer, getting up from her seat a minute after. We both watched as she disappeared into a different room, and returned seconds later with a small stack of papers.

“Okay, so these are your schedules,” she handed us both a piece of paper, “This is a map of the school,” another piece of paper was placed in both our hands, “This is where you can find your locker and what your combinations are,” another piece of paper, “And this, you just need to get all your teachers to sign.” The lady put one last piece of paper in our hands. “Have a good day, and if you have any problems or questions, we’ll be here all day.” She smiled before going back to whatever she was doing before we entered.

“Thank you.” I said at the same time Dean said, “Thanks.”

At that moment, the bell rang and we started off in our adventure to find our lockers.

Once we left the office, the hallways seemed a lot smaller with all the kids trying to get to first period before they were late. Dean and I pushed our way along through the crowd and surprisingly, were able to find our lockers easily.

Thankfully, they were both next to each other and we had half our classes together. Sadly though, first period was not something we had with each other. So, with a small smile, we both went our separate ways.

My schedule did not really say what my first period class was. All it said was “Tech” and the room number.

Hoping that I was heading in the right direction I took off down the hall as the second bell rang, signaling I was now late. Might as well get something out of being a new kid, being late without getting in trouble.

I read off the numbers to each class room as I made my way down the hallway. After what seemed like forever, the hallway was coming to an end and I was starting to get worried that I was heading the wrong direction. Just then though, a guy around my age ran by only to quickly stop.

He gave me a once over before asking, “You’re new here. And no, that’s not a question. But, you aren’t looking for Tech are you?”

“Actually I am.” I nodded, looking at him. He was fairly muscular and tall, wearing dirty clothes, and was fairly cute. But I was not interested in that way, if you catch my drift.

I noticed him give me a weird look before shrugging, “It’s a hard class to find if you don’t know where it is. Took me thirty minutes when I first started school here.” He laughed, probably remembering the memory. “Anyways, follow me. I’m David, you?”

“Baja.” I replied while following him down the rest of the hallway.

“Unique name… I like it.” He gave me a smile before turning to a door that was at the absolute end.

This door had no numbers and was a solid door, so I figured it was a closet. I really hope he was not trying to be smart. I was about to tell him joke is over as he was opening the door, only as he was opening it, it turned out that it was not a closet. But it was not a class room exactly either.

            It was a garage.

            A car garage.
