"Hi, Nurse Joy! This is Wednesday, she's new. She's got a headache from supposed caffeine withdrawal, but I think she's just being dramatic."
The nurse thanked Enid before dismissing her back to class, leaving Wednesday alone with the pink-haired nurse. She glared sullenly at the bright woman, leaning back in the chair she'd been placed in.
"I'm going to go and get principal Weems. Since it's your first day, and she's just down the hall. Be back in a jiffy!"
Groaning at the bright woman, Wednesday turned her body into the round seat, curling up on herself. "Go." She hissed out, the lights spiking her head as she glared at the back of the cheerful woman.
Once the door shut, the goth launched herself towards the medicine cabinet. Reaching a shaky hand out, she tugged at the door handle, only for it to rattle and not open. She tried again with more force but only succeeded in knocking a random bottle down.
Looking down, she noticed a lock that needed a key to open the door. Reaching into her sleeve, she took out a bobby pin she kept in it. The one thing she was able to take from Larissa during the morning without her noticing. The lock on the medicine cabinet was painfully easy to pick, making Wednesday wonder how many students had pillaged the nurses office before her.
Swinging the metal door open, her eyes scanned the various orange bottles in front of her. She recognised one of the "ibuprofen" labels, remembering Weems giving her some a couple of weeks ago. Wednesday grabbed the bottle, along with a few others for good measure, before flopping back down into the chair.
The teenager struggled with the child lock on the bottle, going so far as to gnaw on the lid before she successfully managed to pop it open. Ignoring the fine text, she poured the contents onto her skirt, grabbing a couple and holding them up to her lips. Common sense told her to find a glass of water, but her headache was telling her just to down them, which she did. The pills scratched at the inside of her throat, a horrible feeling as they slid down.
Opening up another bottle, she grabbed one of the bright blue tablets, holding it in between her teeth. Just as she was about to swallow it, she heard the click of a key in the lock and the door opening. She spat out the pill, watching as Weems and Nurse Joy came back into the room.
"Mama!"
"Hello, baby girl." Larissa smiled brightly, not noticing the state of her lap. She faced Nurse Joy, "Thank you for getting me, I had a feeling she would drop. The first day of school is always the hardest on teenagers."
"It's not a problem, Ma'am-" The nurse turned her head to face her desk, noticing the open cabinet door swaying. She took note of the many bottles missing, she glanced behind her to see Wednesday having a pile of white and blue pills. "Oh no- Miss Wednesday!" She rushed over to the little, in a slight panic. "How many did you take?" She grabbed the bottles and loose pills from her lap.
"What is going on, now?" Larissa took note of the medication that the nurse held in her hand. Her own panic rising, "Wednesday?"
Said girl shrugged, smiling widely. "I dunno."
The two women looked at each other, eyes wide.
"Keep an eye on her, we keep an inventory of every pill in the office." The nurse rushed to her desk, pulling out her itinerary. Taking the pills, she started to count them one by one.
Weems picked up the teenager, pulling her into her lap. Wednesday laughed loudly, grabbing onto the lock of hair that fell down the woman's neck. "Can you tell me how many you took, darling?" She pleaded as she heard the nurse sigh from her desk. She noticed her grab the second bottle that was open, dumping them on the desk to count.
"Nuh uh." Wednesday said as she lightly tugged her hair. "Head hurts." 0
Larissa could feel her heart in her throat as she watched Nurse Joy count the blue pills. She scanned the room, eye catching on a small blue object under a chair. Using her foot, she scooted it over to her, picking it up.
"Isn't this one of those morphine pills?" She asked, holding it up for the nurse to examine.
"Yes, I think so! And if it is, that means she didn't take any!"
"Thank god." Weems put her hand on her heart, breathing out a sigh of relief. But she knew that Wednesday had opened a second bottle, and watched anxiously as the nurse counted the white pills.
"Ninety seven, ninety eight. Okay, so she took two. That's a slightly larger dose than she needs, but it won't damage her. She'll be ok!"
Nurse Joy's eyes sparkled as she watched Larissa hug her little, tears in the shapeshifter's eyes.
"Little miss, we are having a talk later." She booped Wednesday's nose, making the girl squeal.
"Coffee now?" Wednesday's eyes grew wide in anticipation, "Peas?"
Larissa shook her head, "No, darling child. You had some this morning." She waved goodbye to the nurse, walking with Wednesday to her office.
Sitting down at her desk she turned the girl to face her, rubbing her nose to the girl who forgot what she asked moments prior. Snuggling up to the woman, Wednesday stuck her thumb in her mouth, closing her eyes.
"Rest," Larissa laid a hand on Wednesday's back, moving in circles. She hesitated for a moment, before placing a kiss on the girl's cheek.
