Caffeine Withdrawal

Weems waved her goodbye, sitting down to brush her hair at her vanity. The bewildered teenager headed to the kitchen, unsure of what to do with herself now. She was so used to starting her day off with the hot bean juice that anything else made her feel ever so nauseous. A spike of pain sparked through her head, and she winced. Settling on an apple, Wednesday grabbed the fruit and retreated to the comforting darkness of her bedroom.

She ended up barely nibbling on the fruit, wishing that she'd thought to save some of the powder from the floor. Once she'd "eaten", Wednesday laid on her bed for the better part of an hour, willing her headache to go away. Her caregiver shouted at her to get ready for school though, which she begrudgingly did, fingers refusing to cooperate as she buttoned up her shirt.

Walking out of her room, Wednesday covered the button up with her school bag, blocking the missing buttons. "Um- I do not know how to ask for this but-"

"Come here, darling." Weems held her hands out, smiling softly. "Are you ready for your first day at Nevermore?" Taking up the fabric around the girl's chest, fixing her shirt.

"As ready as I'll ever be." Wednesday rolled her eyes, causing her headache to bite back. Larissa's eyes met hers, making the goth frown more.

"You know, you can take it slow... Enid has already made a few friends, maybe stick with her?" Larissa offered as she did Wednesday's tie.

Wednesday grumbled something about her coffee, and walked towards the office door. "See you later." She said, throwing open the door. Larissa waved, wanting to take a photo of her.

"Good luck!"

Ignoring the woman, Wednesday slammed the door behind her, the sound reverberating in her skull and making her wince. She marched down the stone corridors, already having memorised her schedule and therefore knowing that she had werewolf reproduction first lesson.

Wednesday was one of the first students to arrive, so she claimed the desk in the far back corner, slouching against the wall as she watched the rest of her peers slowly file in. Some of them she recognised from Enid's friend group, but most of them were complete strangers to her. She made no effort to memorise any of them, her headache distracting her from any logical thinking.

"Good afternoon, students. My name is Mr Lycan, I'll be your teacher this term."

Wednesday did not bother holding her head up, continuing to lean against the soothing cool bricks of the wall. She could hear the teacher talking vaguely in the background, but everything sounded as though it were underwater.

"Miss Addams?"

Wednesday ignored him, groaning at the call of her name. Everything was sounding further away by the second. "Some first day." She thought painfully as she opened her eyes a crack, hissing at the bright light.

"Hey, Wednesday? Want me to take you to the nurse?" Enid asked from her side. The teacher was standing only feet away. She watched as the girl nodded slowly, sitting up. "What's the matter?"

"No coffee." She grumpily said as she took her time standing up. She wobbled slightly, grabbing onto Enid's shoulder for support.

Enid rolled her eyes, "You're being dramatic. You can go a day without a caffeine high. You do it when you're little all the time." She quietly whispered, walking them to the door. "I'll be back soon, Sir." The teacher nodded, going back to his lesson.

"Come on, you can lean on me if you need to."

"I'm fine."

Wednesday grumbled, but she did end up accepting Enid's offer a few steps in. She leant against the slightly taller girl as they hobbled down the hall. Thankfully the nurses office was close by, and there were no other students there.
